Last nightshift for the week. Quiet so far, did some training.

Had a great day today. Dropped the kids at school then the wife and I took our young dog to the beach. He’s been a bit sad too this week. On the way home we had to stop by the vets and pick up the old dogs ashes. That was harder than I thought it was going to be.

Got home and had a quick nap before work.

All in all a good day

The last school holidays our family rediscovered the public library system. We used to go all the time when the kids were little (kindergarten age) then stopped when they started at school and got reading homework. Now they love going and getting ā€˜graphic novels’. Basically comics lol. My wife and I also get books out on loan. Now sometimes we even have family reading time

It was a thoughtful question but a bit tender considering I’m splitting from my spouse at the moment. Coming at it from your experience is a good plan. Water under the bridge, Jacob. Be well, brother.

Milestones cam be a trigger for some reason. Sometimes I even think of not counting but the craving always passes

Working full time with a family, I’m wondering why I even thought about just not doing anything with my life.
I almost thought my peak of existence was drunk or high. I begged people to get me high..I was gone

Now
I don’t beg anyone
I still have to practice looking at myself in the merror when approaching problems with people. I get defensive very quick.

I would choose a life of sobriet everyday I know for sure

My boys love to go to the library! They are so different than the one I was going as a kid. Now they have special corners for kids, with stuff to colour, crayons, Legos etc. And ofcourse thousands of super duper books for them. We will definitely go one of those days.

We just came back from a walk and we found a place with some beautiful sorrel just waiting to be harvest. I want to teach my boys about edible plants and herbs around us. Well, I still have to learn a lot! But it’s cool thing and I see they enjoy it big time so definitely something to work on.

So, today we will eat some fresh sorrel with a bit of olive oil and lemon juice with a dinner. We love sour :green_heart:

IJmuiden is walking distance from Haarlem (when you like to walk). Biggest tourist attractions: the ferry to Newcastle, the lovely view of Tata steel works, and Zeesluis IJmuiden, one of the biggest sea locks in the world, catering to the port of Amsterdam.

Monday morning check in. After a more-or-less relaxing weekend, it’s back to the mines. But I won’t complain. I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else.

At almost 100 days, I am feeling more secure in my sobriety. I want to kick myself (well, the person I was three months ago), and shout, what were you thinking? I am glad not to be that person anymore.

As schoolwork has picked up, I have let my journal slide, so I’m going to recommit to journaling regularly, at least 4 days a week.

It’s good to see so many people hitting milestones. The numbers may be large or small, but they are all big. Congratulations.

Hoping your Monday isn’t too manic. (Ugh, there’s an earworm that will haunt you through the day.)

@Tragicfarinelli triple 6’s!! :clap:t4::tada::tada:. Seeing glowing skeletons cause you were wearing skeleton tops :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:…have yourself a wonderful day TF

Grateful you passed them. The brain tries to convince us that we are healed and can go back. It’s a crazy reminder of how ready out addiction is to jump in and take over. Keep going strong :flexed_biceps:t4:

I see you putting in the effort and stacking up the days. Br proud of yourself. Anytime that nagging voice pops up you can reflect on the relapse and remind yourself that nothing good can’t from going down that path. :hugs:

Checking in on Monday morning

Morning check in on day 298
9 yr old daughter : ā€œmom, birthday cakes come in different flavours right?ā€
Me: ā€œyes you can get all different flavours of birthday cakeā€
9 yr old daughter ā€œ then why is birthday cake considered a flavour for things when birthday cake can taste like lots of different things ā€œ
Me: …. ā€œ so today is the first pizza day of the year. That’s pretty awesome. ā€œ

I have not had enough coffee to think this deeply about cake this morning :joy::joy:
Anyways it’s another day off from work today. Overcast and drizzly right now but hopefully it will clear up a bit so I can get out there for a good walk and also plan to hop onto a zoom meeting later. Hope you all have a great day. Stay safe and sober everyone

Yesssss @JazzyS absolutely our addiction demons can take many many forms and they can be so so so so so sneaky

You know how I use to love my pot and CBD and especially THC pens

Sometimes I think I can actually have CBD. I don’t need it though so why would I need to take it. I take meds for anxiety and a med for anti depression. I got diagnosed schizophrenic like 19 years ago. Completely beat it by the way. But yes I even ask my wife hey can I have CBD. She says matt that’s your addiction talking.

I say that story because our demons want us completely sick and dark
Our angels guide us with light

We must surround ourselves with like-minded and positive supportive people so be in the light.

Besides the dark side is so dangerous it could drive us insane

Live in the light with me @JazzyS
I’ll see ya around

I love those moments when our kids are more logical than us adults
Still remember that look on my son’s face, that mix of shock and disappointment, when he realized that purple cabbage is called red cabbage (I told him about onions too) :joy: It was like ā€œyou big people are idiotsā€ kind of look

Funny you should make the church bar reference. I got invited to a church for Easter Sunday. The service was early enough for me to attend both services. I arrived at the church a little early and sat in the parking lot. My usual over thinking kicked in, ā€œI don’t really know anyone here.ā€, ā€œare they on their way?ā€, ā€œwhat if they don’t show up?ā€ And then at that moment I heard a voice say ā€œif this was a bar or a club, would you still go in?ā€ And I thought to myself well, yea I’d so go in and get in a drink, whether they showed up or not! So I went in, they showed up but we didn’t get to sit together. I really enjoyed the service and when the pastor was calling for people up front for prayer, he raises his hand in the air and says ā€œLAST CALL!ā€ and all I could do was smile and know in my heart that I was in the right place! I served the world without abandon! I pumped my fists and stomped around at concerts! Now I try and do the same for the Lord!

@MTSober I don’t feel like I’m stuck, having these type of dreams every now and then all my life - for over 50 years now. Yes, stuck in this reality, this world, this linear existence maybe. Actually having these dreams over such a long period of time makes the experience a bit less linear maybe .

A house under construction seems logically to be a representation of my own life, or the inside of my head. I’m intrigued and these dreams make me think but I’m not really too interested in totally explaining them away. It’s my subconsciousness ā€˜thinking’. Which makes for super interesting viewing material with my conscious mind I feel. I’m lucky not to have too many nightmares.

@Butterflymoonwoman You obviously needed the rest friend. Happy for you to have a relatively easy day. Enjoy it!

@poppyfairy I really love the way many migrants bring back the art of collecting food from nature here. It’s knowledge and skill that’s almost totally lost to us original Dutchies. Thank you and eet smakelijk! I also love how you get your boys involved in all these healthy habits and how they like it too

@TS66 Thanks for the earworm indeed. Tell me why I don’t like Mondays (without telling me)
