Choosing honesty

Today I chose to be honest to my best friend about my relapse. I have bailed on her for almost every hangout this year. She’s hurt, I’m also hurt because I know how much it affects her. After her nursing me through sobriety countless times over the years, I didnt want to tell her the truth because of the shame and fear I would lose her. Well, honesty is the best policy and she deserves to know the truth. If I lose her, it’s my own fault at this point. Day three back on the wagon, here’s to fixing my mistakes and choosing this to be the last time.

Honesty is the only way sobriety sticks. It creates accountability and pride. For me the best part of sobriety is no more lying, not to anyone… including myself.
