You ever tried to stop something and fail? You ever try again and fail? Again? Yet, here I am, again. Trying and stopping, with success — as I near 4 complete days…
As cliché as it sounds, it’s not about how many times you fail, it’s about having that drive to get back up and give it another shot. In my personal opinion, sobriety is a lot like everything else in life….you’re probably not going to nail it the first time. I know I didn’t. I kept listening to that inner demon that told me I could always quit tomorrow. It took me a ridiculous amount of time to realize that tomorrow was never going to come.
Perhaps you shouldn’t focus on how much you’ve failed and focus on making it happen this time. Those other times you failed? Well, that’s certainly unfortunate but that was then and this is now and you’ve got this.
Welcome @mjtpeace! You only fail when you stop trying. What have you done that hasn’t worked and what are going to different this time?
What actions are you taking to be successful in your sobriety?
Hi, I have tried and relapsed many times BUT I never give up trying as I am not a quitter and it sounds like your the same, keep going you can do this.
Welcome to the TS community! I failed a lot! Too many times to count. I’m now at 23 months freedom from alcohol. I changed a lot of things in my life at that point. What have you been doing to support getting and staying sober, and what do you need to add to be successful. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting a different result.
Joining this community is a wonderful addition to your sobriety support system. Glad you are here.
Welcome. This place saved my life. Be active. You will find: advice, cautionary tales of failure, fun, and friendship.
So what have you been doing to keep sober?
I joined TS December 2016….but my last sober date is November 2018. That’s 2 years of chronic relapses. But now I’m over 4 years sober. Chronic relapsing does not mean it can’t be done. It only means it wasn’t yet your time.
YOU CAN DO IT!!
What’s important is that you never stop trying!! Welcome to the community. Glad you’re here!
I am thankful for all of your responses - they are genuine. I recall instances in life which provided a connection to others with similar struggles, and reading all of your replies gave me the feeling.

4 Days
Maybe a new mind set might be a meeting or a another 12 step program might help with your relapses wish you well
I do believe a 12-step meeting is in the works, sooner than later. although I have not dealt with alcohol as a substance of craving, other substances and behaviors have been a constant issue to cessate.
14 days - feels good to be free of active addiction
I am too only back 4 days so lets do this together. I got nearly 6 weeks down and i felt amazing. I was glowing and everything about me was too. I stopped checking in here and with myself and said ah sure ill do it tomorrow. Tomorrow i was on the drink. You are worth freedom and happiness and health. Just by checking in here ive regained some of my confidence a bit. Im still detoxing and my vision is crap and my skin is crawling but this too shall pass. We have to keep going and trying. There is nothing left for us at the bottom of a bottle or whatever your doc is. Best of luck i believe you can do this as i believe i can too❤
your response brings tears. idk what it is about the power of anonymity. knowing someone on this planet out there is fighting alongside, living with similar mentalities, makes me feel good. your words hit so hard. we are worth freedom and happiness and health. the other day I was messaging my brother and expressed frustration with addiction. he said the fact that I keep trying is what he loves me for. I’ll never understand why it had to choose us but we must fight. I believe in you.
You both are worth it and absolutely not alone. So many fight addiction. So many more just give in to their addiction. It takes courage to address it and live ODAAT. Glad you both are here.
Also you responding to me has giving me a lovely feeling a strenght heading to bed this evening. Im just so scared of it happening again. When it does its not iust worse everytime but different and fucked up in so many ways. Morals go out the window and i dont know who that person is. I do think getting to the bottom of why we turn to substances is one important thing to do. I hope we will stay on this journey together and with all the other amazing souls here too. If we just really take it a day at a time a stay away from the first drink we can do it. Lets not forget to check in here all the time and lets fight this shit and kick its ass for good❤

the fear of it happening again reveals how much we care about our well-being, plus how messed up the condition truly is. you know we do not fear eating vegetables or certain foods, unless we know of possible allergic reactions. that’s really the main problem - the reaction I have to drugs. it can be as simple as how lazy, confused, unpredictable, and unproductive I become when using one drug to morals going out window when I use another. it’s all not cool. the flip side is sobriety and genuinely feeling proud of myself.
getting to the bottom of why we turn to substances is imperative. many ways of understanding why are possible. there are billions of ways to be sober and stay sober - we have to find the one way which works for us. thankfully ST exists and we are able to connect here. one day at a time, keep encouraging each other. i got your back.
If you’re willing and honestly want to stop for good PM me and I am willing to help.
I don’t struggle with the obsession today. At all. I was a hopeless case and couldn’t stop. Part of me staying that way is to help you. Or try to.
