Wow. America sounds very backwards sometimes
Just got home from family meal at nice local Italian restaurant. Some people were trying to open the door with there elbows
LMAO!!! Iām sorry, thatās funny but not.
Now that an employee at my very local shopping mall, literally a 10 min walk from my house has it, it seems inevitable we or people I know will get it soon. I donāt know whether my uni will start on time or not, and if I or my kids get it I am concerned about the practical side of self-isolation, as well as the rare chance it not being just mild symptoms.
Iām doomed I was just sat in the chemists with somebody sat in the chair next to me any I touched my face and rubbed my nose. It was nice knowing you all!
I think she means with this particular virus, healthy kids can become infected, and yet remain asymptomatic. They give it to the parents, and other adults, who then develop symptoms.
This is similar to the occasional hepatitis C outbreaks in daycare facilities. Hep C positive kids show no symptoms, and their adult caregivers develop the full-blown illness.
Ah makes more sense put life that. I couldnāt imagine what had been said to seemingly wind her to that extent. Wow I didnāt know that about kids and hep c.
Thatās my learn something every day for today.
Do you mean Hep A?
I just googled, that claims it to be hep b
B & C typically spread through blood. Hep A typically fecal-oral
You strike me as an individual that pays attention to what data says. You may find this helpful. The biggest issue here is slowing the spread so the health care systems arenāt overwhelmed, which would precipitate higher case fatality rates, especially in the vulnerable populations. That being said, I think the media has a role in getting people the facts, instead driving the panic. But facts probably donāt sell as well.
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) - Our World in Data
Maybe. Whichever one hits daycares.
Perhaps it would cause more deaths in slowing the spread. Or if the spread were to run its course rapidly, hospitals would just become overwhelmed and more people would die anywayā¦
I think thatās the rationale behind cancellations and closures. Slow the spread to the point where healthcare and resources can keep pace.
Now if authorities would stick to facts, and the media quit sensationalizing, and instead report, these are precautionary measures to break the chain of infection, are temporary, and our societal systems are foundationaly strong enough to handle this, nerves would be calmed.
This. Not just authorities, but individuals. For many, the media is less sensationalizing than the rest of the input theyāre getting throughout the day. That is true for me. I am just fine, I go out and to the grocery store, people are not panicked, but I come online and people are very worked up. And Iām not that far from the āactionā.
That said, nothing wrong with appropriate concern. Thereās a balance to be had.
I just came from my grocery store. Had to get cabbage and red potatoes to complete the Irish-American traditional Saint Patrickās Day meal. Didnāt check for TP, Sanitizer, etc but the only item I noticed a bit thin was peanut butter. Not nearly empty, just a bit thin.
Had to go to my daughterās school to pick up all her books. Kids will be teleschooling for the rest of the month.
I think most folks are just taking things in stride.
We.live in the middle of nowhere so self isolation is no different than a normal weekend but the media is whipping this up . We need herd immunity and then move on .
Schools closed here for 3 weeks for now. Might be more. Libraries, concerts, etc. closed. Trying to figure out what to do as I still work. Likely need to take time off to watch little man. Picked up some groceries and thereās zero toilet paper. Looks like they had put a limit to two packs, which Iām happy to see to stop hoarders. Still paper towel. I feel bad for seniors. So odd people hoarding TP. Wish it was garden season but happy itās not full blown winter. Snow starting to melt now
Iāll admit Iām a fucking nutjob that hoarded toilet paper, paper towels, Clorox wipes, bread (to freeze), water and stuff to make my own sanitizer. I know what itās like when storeās go empty from living in areaās hard hit from hurricanes but this tops the cake for a scare. Here is my local walmart and Costco.
Hard part when others hoard is thereās none left for anyone else
