I sought out medical treatment and was in counseling and therapy. Try breathing techniques too. I go to AA regularly to help stop from projecting the future and living in the past.

My anxiety was normally caused by worrying about stuff that never actually happens. But there are many reasons for anxiety, sleep, diet, lack of exercise, stress. Personally I only get anxious when I drank and I mean like proper seizures to the point of messing my self and passing out on the side of roads too scared to go to work. When you look back at your day as you lay in bed turns out there wasn’t much to be too bothered about after all. Just chill out concentrate on your breathing and be quietly content with yours for not drinking. Be strong.

Be careful though, I tried that and some days I still think I’m a chicken. I don’t know what the trigger is. I mean one minute I’m eating my corn on the cob…

A lot of anxiety is actually caused by the addiction itself. If you already have some anxiety, then post alcohol withdrawls increases anxiety. Add coffee on top of that and its almost a recipe for debilitating anxiety.

CBT has been really amazing for me. If you’re in a position to get therapy, I would highly recommend it. I have crazy bad anxiety too if left unchecked and CBT has given me some excellent tools to deal with it.
I have high anxiety and moderate depression. I’d take the depression any day. Anxiety is awful. I hope you find something that works for you!

Breathing, lavender and camomile tea!!

Yoga and meditation helps me. Reaching out to a friend or family member, or a fellow or sponsor if you’re in AA.

I’ve been wanting to try CBD for a while but am unsure of what brand/product to try.

I think he is refering to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (cbt) not CBD:joy::joy:

Anxiety runs in my family so we are all on meds for it but it doesn’t help the anxiety that comes with sobriety. At least not for me. I had an anxiety attack earlier and all I wanted to do was go get a bottle of wine. I was getting angry. I had to find something to take my mind off of it. So I told my husband I wanted to be alone and I went into the bedroom with my dog and watched one of my favorite current Netflix shows that would keep me intrigued until it passed. It did pass. It will pass and you will be like wow, I don’t even feel like I did a few hours ago. And I have no regrets because I didn’t go get that wine. This was my first experience of passing anxiety and now I know how to handle it.

I take Prozac for my anxiety. I was on lexapro for a few years and it started to stop working. However, my anxiety the day after binge drinking was always the worst. I’ve started working out since I quit drinking and that has been helping a ton. Also, a lot of time people find comfort in pets. I have a very compassionate cat and when I’m feeling extra anxious I’ll cuddle him and the purring really helps keep me calm.

Share share share. Let yourself open up to everyone and be vulnerable. Allow yourself to be open to your loved ones. It will go away sooner than later. Just always be honest with others and yourself. :innocent:

I found going to a yoga class helped me manage my anxiety a bit. As did meditation. Have the time and space to be with thoughts rather than controlled by them. You do have to do them regularly and often to get the full effects.

Ultimately the thing that has helped my anxiety has been medication (Sertraline or Zoloft, depending on where in the world you are). I’m on the waiting list for some CBT, once I’ve had that I’d like to try coming off the medication and see how it goes because I think it might be affecting my mood in other ways.

Can confirm I was talking about cognitive behavioural therapy!
