Yep. Just wildfires. Pretty much the only natural disaster that happens around here. And even those are mostly just part of the normal ecological process.

British Columbia, the westernmost province of Canada! My favourite, for many reasons

I feel like the name isnā€™t right though. Itā€™s not very British, and has very little to do with Colombia, or Columbusā€¦ :joy:

Unlike in the Amazonas right now

Right? I couldnā€™t ask for more. Well, maybe an easier way to travel to see more of it . And I may end up having to move in the future, so thatā€™s another way of experiencing more of it I guess

The people and culture is something I also appreciate a lot. Itā€™s pretty different from the rest of Canada, compared to what some expect.

I was reluctant for cost also. However it was somewhat comparable to his daycare cost, so I figured I can hopefully manage. Fingers crossed he doesnā€™t get kicked out & I lose money, haha. Iā€™ll have to get used to packing lunches for next week!
Iā€™ve always wanted to go to Belgium. My dad was offered a posting there when I was young but he didnā€™t take it. I had to check a map to see where it & Estonia are exactly located :joy: I just knew ā€œacross the pondā€ from us as we say here. Iā€™ve never been to Europe/Uk. Hubby is of Danish decent; me of Scottish, so hopefully someday Iā€™ll get a chance to take my little man exploring that area of the world.

It always throws me that the Maritime provinces are roughly the same distance to both Vancouver and London, despite being in the same country vs across an oceanā€¦

Not at the moment. Depending on how work stuff goes, it may make more sense for me to move to Vancouver for jobs, because the tech industry there is a million times beyond anywhere else in BC. I could move to a different province, but I want to be close to my family and they mostly live here.

I did some distance checking (what can I say, Iā€™m a geography nut :man_shrugging:) and discovered that even Tallinn is closer to St. Johnā€™s, NL, Canada than Vancouver, BC is, by 31 km :astonished:

I canā€™t imagine how busy you must be! I joke that my little one is like the work of 3, but definitely not in reality :joy: Iā€™m happy theyā€™ll be serving snacks so I just need to supply lunch (heā€™s a tad picky too, but got him a little bento lunchbox so heā€™s excited for that)
And if youā€™re ever on this side of the pond, let me know

Are you asking about the distance from the moon, or if I might move there? unfortunately I donā€™t think either answer is going to be what I want :joy:

And frustrating that sometimes it seems itā€™s more expensive to fly within Canada vs. overseas!
Iā€™ve yet to venture to BC but my SIL lives there & is bugging to fly us out there one day.

I know, right? And the train isnā€™t very efficient. Itā€™s not high speed rail, and whatā€™s more, the sidings where freight trains should pull over to wait for passenger trains arenā€™t always big enough, so the passenger trains end up using them to wait for freight to pass. I think it took 4 days to travel from Montreal to (not quite Vancouver) when I went. Lots more expensive than flying, too.

@keiti At the moment, itā€™s only 72 times further away than that, at 360,000 km! If I go now, the flight is shorterā€¦ if I wait until later in the orbit, it could be more like 405,000km and that sounds a little tiring. Is it really that hasty of me to be making plans? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But then, Iā€™d be wishing everyone a good earth rotation and be lonely in myā€¦ lunar rotationā€¦ talk about long days! Is that going to mess up my day counter? I need to be thinking this through!

That canā€™t be right, is it? I will have to googleā€¦ stand byā€¦

Had to check because I thought it was plausible (and would have been a really cool little fact)ā€¦ but North border of Texas is not closer to Canada than Mexicoā€¦ but close.

Itā€™s about 150 miles further to canada then to mexico, if measuring extreme point to point. So I stand corrected and will pass that on the the Texan that told me that lieā€¦
