Daily Practices for staying Sober

Hey all!

I’m seeing that keeping a daily log or a practice to stay sober will take me far. Left to my own whims, I know I’ll keep falling.

I’m curious as to whether you all have developed rituals or practices that help you maintain your sobriety. If yes, post them here! I’d love to hear it and I’m sure we all will benefit

I always meditate in the mornings, 10-30 minutes depending on how much time I have! I always read before bed. I go to yoga three times a week, teach on Saturdays, and try and get SOME movement in each day, whether it’s a walk or stretching.

Routines keep me sane - I write out a simple to do list every morning and rate my happiness at the end of the day. It keeps me focused.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah movement seems crucial. What scale do you use to rate your happiness? Do your journal it or track or is it just a day to day thing?

I have a passion planner (if you type passion planner in Google, they’ve got their own shop) and I journal in there. Organise my days. It’s got loads of helpful tools in and is goal orientated.

I just note my happiness on 1-10 in there each day, it’s just a bit of self-reflection really!

Thanks again for sharing. I have a specific 12 month planners arriving in a few days that I plan on using religiously.

If anyone has any specific rituals or practices please feel free to share

Oh sure! Right out of the gate, I set to visiting the Checking in daily thread every evening for both accountability and a dash of hope. I still read it every day even when I don’t post (you all are an inspiration!).

Since then a friend in recovery gifted me a book of daily meditations. Every morning I read a passage and reflect on how it applies in my life.

Daily exercise goals have been a figurative focus. Working on working out in the 30 day challenges has been great in its own right for my health, but something about the discipline needed and the changes in my body translate strongly to my thoughts/feelings about recovery. It does a lot to reinforce my sobriety!

And it isn’t quite daily, but I also hit regular meetings and do step work to keep getting better at getting better. Not steadily working a program of recovery was a recipe for complacency leading to relapse for me in the past. That’s definitely still true today! :v: :muscle:

Your daily log is a good one. I think once I clear the first pass at my step work, I may translate it into a sobriety journal for daily inventory. Actually putting things to paper has been so helpful, and leaving it at thoughts has not been enough before. I tend to forget.

When I feel down I watch vids from a yt channel " daily dose of internet"

They make great videos of well… Funny, cute, and cool things and little clips from the internet.
What I also do is read a lot of books ( mostly informative books or children fairy tales) to keep myself busy. Informative books give info which your brain processes and that keeps my brain fed. I read Fairy tales when my brain is overloaded with things that happend that day, Fairy tales for kids are simple and relax me.

Thank you for posting these @RottingDoll @Eke and @anon34614660. I’ll be looking into those soon and will respond
