It has officially been my first 24 hours. I have tried this before and a month is the longest I have gone. I think the main reason I drink is to fall asleep at night. It’s 6AM and I was tossing and turning all night. I find it hard to sleep when I don’t drink. Plan to never touch a drink again.
Welcome! Good choice you’ll find a lot of support here. Read tge posts and ask any questions.
Insomnia was my biggest fear about stopping drinking. It resolved quickly, pretty much within a week maybe two.
Glad you’re here with us. This place is amazing and open 24/7! Lol. I come here often it helps to know I’m not alone on this journey. I too was worried about not sleeping when I got sober but I need not of worried. Once my body started to repair and level out I slept better sober than I ever did when drinking. The quality of sleep when sober is fantastic. Stay with it, be gentle with yourself and you’ll be sleeping very well soon
Its gonna take some time but sober sleep and mornings are the best. Be patient and keep active in seeking sobriety.
Two people very dear to me use alcohol for this reason (not my experience and I want to say that), and what I have foubd is that alcohol is actually bad for sleep even if it helps you get to sleep. It disrupts sleep, and we have a lower quality of sleep when we drink. Im not sure if knowing this helps at all, but i think the sleep and insomnia can be a vicious cycle. I definitly experienced disturbed sleep when I drank, and feel more rested and sleep much better now that i dont.
The habit there is using it to fall asleep. Insomnia is so real for so many of us and I struggled with it for much of my life. I have found many things that have helped and I do not struggle with it as I used to, and I iust share that to hopefully give a little hope. Test out the not dribking to fall asleep, so how it goes and if the insomnia is very strong perhaps talk to your doctor and see about other things you could also do to help with sleep (and whats keeping you up). Xo. I wish you luck.
