Day 14 out of 365 of no alcohol

I’m happy to say that I’m two weeks into my 1 year journey of no alcohol.
The first week was honestly depressing… it still is, but I’m starting to feel better physically and mentally.

How long have you guys been sober for?
It would be interesting and motivating to hear some of your guy’s success and experiences.

congratulations!! an amazing goal, will surely be a year of incredible transformation and growth! keep that in mind when it gets rough - i’m on day 100 today and for me that first month was the roughest because I was feeling everything I’d been numbing for years — it can be extremely painful. but when u actually work thru the feelings it becomes easier, and also productive. we become stronger and more authentically ourselves. that’s the “recovery” part of sobriety that is SO important - and has made my 100 days possible. i’ve tried sobriety before but never recovery. that’s where the real work is - it’s not just about “not using”, it’s about healing our relationship with our own mind and the stories we tell about our life. it’s a powerful journey, and i’m glad to be walking in solidarity with you and all of us courageous folks here in this community :pray:t3::sparkling_heart:

14 days is amazing!
Just be careful having an outlook of 365 days, it can seem too big.
I’m a few years sober and still don’t think that far ahead, just today is enough.

Do you have any support systems, have you tried meetings to maybe help with finding other sober people.
It can be hard work to begin with but I found that meeting other people in the same situation made me realise that living sober is actually great

Good job on 2 weeks! The first few weeks are the hardest physically, the rest is difficult mentally. Keep working your program and it will make things a lot easier.

I’ve been sober for 5+ years. It still feels weird to say that. Feels like yesterday I was just starting my journey, feels like a life time ago I was an active drunk.

When I quit, I didn’t know how long I wanted to quit for, so I just quit for that day. Then the next day, decided to quit for just that day. After about 2 months of that, I felt I wanted to quit for a year or more. I felt that it was something I was capable of doing. So I did. During that time, I admitted that sober was better and that I had no desire to go back to the shitty life I was living before.

I also learned that getting sober was easy, staying sober was hard. I had to work my program everyday. Even now. I’ve heard too many stories where people let their guard down and they relapsed, I don’t want to.do that, so I keep working it, everyday.

Been sober for 5 years because I choose to be sober on the only day that matters, today.

Keep checking in, I look forward to seeing you cross the finish line!

There are a coulle threads around here that have a lot of “How long have you guys been sober for”?..

I racked up years on the “Checking in Daily” thread (great community of peeps) and 100s of days on the “screen shot your sober days/time” thread

Good on ya and be well.

I’m at day 349 today. This is not actually the first time I’ve gone sober but before I did it with the intent of going back to it eventually. This time I decided to quit and not look back. I would say that it’s important to decide if sobriety is something you’re pursuing long term or just for a period of time and assess whether or not it’s a problem in your life.

I only say this because saying you’re quitting for a year can come off as you’re intending to drink again at some point and the people on here are trying to admit they have a problem and address it in their lives. It can be distracting or tempting to them if they’re interacting with someone who is intending to drink again. Not accusing you of anything, I just want to put that out there because I’ve seen people get really defensive on posts about it when people are on the fence about their intentions. If you’re exploring sobriety that’s great, I just don’t want you to run into folks who may question your motives based on your stated goal.
