I am having a hard time, keeping busy besides work, When I do simple activities like watch a movie I’m usually used to be in drunk. How do I keep myself from being bored?
I often get bored too. I try to go for a walk or a drive (as I could never do that before as would have been drunk) or sometimes do a job around the house that needs doing, then you get a real sense of achievement. Or find something to stream like a boxset that you can really get into and binge watch for hours!
Hope some of this might help.
Exercise, deep cleaning, walking, podcasts, reading for hours and hours here… those are all the things I did in early sobriety. Welcome back
Seems generationally boredom is viewed differently. I enjoy quiet boredom. It takes me back to my youth when our imagination was required to fill in many long spells of time.
I think it’s a skill that is becoming lost but a valuable one to have. Being with your thoughts only helps visualize and grow self… but what do I know, lol, I’m just an old man.
I enjoy it now but didn’t when my brain was still physically addicted to substances and trying to trick me back into using.
I totally get that boredom. I have hobbies spread around the house. Paint by numbers set up in my work from home office, knitting in the living room, my home laptop with my World of Warcraft game on it in the kitchen, the books I am reading in the bedroom. I have options when I am bored and if I don’t fancy any of them I do what @Jamesb85 suggested and either do a job around the house that needs doing or clean something.
I also just started watching Vikings on Netflix which is 6 seasons so should keep me busy for a while.
