Whew, this is something I did have to do early in sobriety, and let me tell you, it was HARD! not at all fun, and to top it off almost made me relapse more than once.

If you can avoid triggers to your DOC My advice is to avoid them.
You can always send a gift, and go out to a movie or dinner with your friend and his cousin, or do something else fun that isn’t going to involve you having to decline a drink or otherwise tempt you.

Thanks for this advice Jazzy

Luckily it was a function hall, so there was a bar serving regular soft drinks as well as alcohol, so I was able to follow your tip about having a drink in hand.

It really showed me how cheap a night it can be not drinking too - I’d have easily spent £30-50 if I was getting drunk - and I spend £1.80 all night :joy: mental

So weird to see this now… right? In the past I would go out and take cash to say this was my limit but would always have a cc in case and I think the cash was only ever used as a tip. Ridiculous how much hard earned $ we threw away while poisoning ourselves.

So grateful they had non alcoholic beverages available and you were able to have a good time.
