I think i hit rock bottom in july. I couldnt get out of bed and was crawling around in the apartment after beer after almost 30 days of drinking. I had to do toiletstuff in a plastic container besides the bed. I didnt care about anything. I was just in bed drinking beer and watching TV, nothing else.
When it gets tough, i think about that nightmare and the many other nightmares of drinking i have been through in my life, and I hope i will never forget it.
Awesome stuff; super glad you checked in to share - congratulations!
I have 46 days under my belt.
I think about why I chose to seek sobriety and freedom. According to every single source I’ve investigated (including all the amazing people in this community), my life will be better if I remain sober - eventually.
So, I just choose to believe the truth, and disbelieve the lie of addiction, whenever I’m triggered.
The proof is available. You can do this, and your life will be better because you do this.
We’re all rowing the same boat together. And, we’re pulling for you!
By the way, something that really helps me is checking in here, and reading around each day for support and insights. (Checking in daily to maintain focus #88)
When I first started my journey I thought about the last night and how insane it all was. I had hit my rock bottom of shame and humiliation. This helped me curb my urges.
I was also able to find ways to keep my head occupied with hobbies, activities so that I did not have to deal with the tough thoughts. It was super hard. I was grateful to find this space around my two month mark. Once I did, I hung on for dear life. I read as many threads as possible, listened to the messages of my peers who have gone through this. I realized I was not alone. I realized that even the tough moments / days don’t last and with support and the tools that we gather we can get through another moment / another day.
Keep going strong … hope to see you around on the threads
Thats a good way to put it. Freedom. Freedom for me/us to do what we want instead of alcohol getting in the way. I loose my freedom when drinking, thats for sure. Lets go for another day!
Congrats on day 51. Probably more by the time you read this. As for your question, what I think about when the going gets tough is not about how much past time I wasted, but how much future time I could throw away! Eventually, the roll of paper towels that is our life runs out! Recovery is the easiest way to fully live whatever is left.
Im on 66 days now. Its tough, i have thought about buying beer many times. “A few doesnt hurt”, yes it does I keep thinking. I dont stop at a “few beers”. I countinue for days on end and feeling worse and worse for every day. So im hanging in there still.
