Good morning! I just found this site and immediately joined. I am a long time denier “ I don’t drink too much, I’ve never gotten in trouble with this" all while hiding bottles, hiding drinking and over justifying this addiction to myself and others.
I am so hopeful for this site. I already have a few of the books mentioned (never read them sigh) and I just wanted to say “hello”! My current Sober Time is 3 hours and 25 minutes.
Am going to try my hardest this time, though I already feel a bit jumpy. Your advice is welcome.

Congratulations on starting your sober journey. Coming here and engaging is a great first step. It took me a while to accept that I had a problem- I also had those hidden bottles and unread books. Since you asked, I have two pieces of advice -
spend some time here, read others stories and advice. There’s a lot of valuable stuff there.
put as much effort into your sobriety as you did into your drinking…
Yes, welcome and congrats on your decision. For me, reading and participating here in the forum is key to maintaining my sobriety. Do read around, and join in where you like. We do not only discuss sobriety, but really every topic under the sun. What interests you (or did before addiction took away your hobbies and passions)? Is it cooking? Gardening? Fitness? Art/crafting? Music? Memes? Yoga? Pets? Nature and photography? We seriously have topics for all these lighter subjects, as well as more weighty ones like addiction, mental health, relationships, life events and so on. This place is a gold mine.
Good for you, Lucy Lou! It sounds like you know what you want. Alcohol isn’t my addiction personally but I can say that reaching out to other people in recovery and learning from them has been a big help to me.
Glad you found us. My advice is to read around and share more when you are ready. Take it one day at a time. Heck one hour or one minute at a time. Its super tough in the beginning but it will get easier! Hold on tight and lean on your supports
Welcome, Lucy
This site/app is a HUGE reason why I’ve managed to stay sober for almost 5 months and plan to continue.
It helped me pull myself from a very dark place and addiction that had quite a hold on me.
I’m glad you found it as well!
I look forward to seeing you around.
Welcome to the community and so glad you found us. This place and the members have been a life saver for me. Many amazing threads full of advice. You are among friends who understand the struggle.
Day one is amazing and it’s normal to feel jumpy, anxious, sick. I spent my time hydrating to flush out the toxins, keeping busy with whatever so I didn’t allow the urges to settle and sleeping (found I slept a lot while my body was detoxing).
.stay connected to support here and IRL (maybe join a recovery group or go to a meeting). Remember that the hard moments don’t last and things do get easier.
