Day one withdrawing from opiates

I went to the hospital to try to detox but I was there for hours with no help n they sent my boyfriend home cus they said they were already working on me which isn’t fair. They were treating him so cruel that he was withdrawing right infront of him n they didn’t care, he ended up getting discharged n went home. I stayed longer trying to push thru the withdrawal but all they do is let u sit there hurting, they didn’t even feed me for almost 24 hrs I had to say something.
I’ll never go to a hospital for help ever again. Can someone tell me how long do these withdrawal symptoms last n if I’ll feel less tomorrow day by day.
I’m gonna take a lot of benedryl n Tylenol see if it helps but I have a drug test on the 19th I can’t fail this!!

Depends, it’s a loaded question

On average the worst part of opiate withdrawal lasts about 24-48 hours the first 24-48 hours is the worse and it slowly reduces over a period of 4-5 days

Of course your mileage may vary considerably, age health length of time using. Things like that, But you have 3 days, to get to your drug test

There are a lot of factors that play in to this like how long you’ve been using and how much; however, I would say that you will feel the worst for about 3-4 days. After that you’ll probably still feel like crap, but the intensity will lessen. You could feel pretty under the weather physically for a week or two. Depending on other factors, you may deal with P.A.W.S. for a year or two.

As for passing your drug test, I’m on the fence if you will pass or not. I think you can get some drug test strips online where you can check yourself. I used to have some for weed, and I think they had other ones that tested for other substances. That might at least let you know where you’re at on that.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience and that of your boyfriend. It sounds like it was horrible for you. I wish you and your boyfriend the best.

I am soo sorry ur having such a terrible experience at the hospital. Is there anyother hospital u can go to by chance? Idk where ur at but sometimes going to another hospital can make a difference. Years n years ago when i got off opiods, my withdrawl symptoms lasted for about 7 days. But again there is a number of factors at play that determine the severity and length of withdrawl. I really hope that u both get the help u need :heartbeat:

Have to say just about everyone here is spot on. Will say you can’t die from opiate withdrawals, but it’s a bold statement to be making not knowing any underlying conditions one may have that could be affected by withdrawal symptoms. Always best if you have the option to do it supervised as your body is not liking the withdrawals. I know the hospitals can have a very lengthy wait time and have almost no empathy because they are numb to it. But there are inpatient centers for detoxing and follow up care that aren’t connected to a hospital and focus solely on detox.

I apologize. Not my intention. My intention was to help. Your feedback is helpful. It’s really just to say there’s so many other resources out there and not to give up thinking all facilities and people/staff will treat you that way. Don’t give up.

100% agree they all aren’t that way but yes some are unfortunately. I’m here in NY as well and I’ve been to some awful places seeking help. I eventually left the state and found a really good independent facility that even offered grants as I am well below the average income line. Flew me there and back and I never seen a dime in a bill. Not saying it was the absolute greatest facility or that can happen for every single person, I was blessed, but it started me in my way and the staff was amazing. All recovering folks like us with many years. I would say to reach out and see what you can get for grants if you don’t have insurance. Stay away from hospitals as they are overpacked and priority based on severity, and opiate withdrawal is not considered an imminent threat to life and most consider it self induced so it’s a long wait time.

Agreed! I’m happy you got help you need. There’s also outpatient drug clinics that allow you to pay what you can afford on a sliding scale fee basis if you don’t have insurance. There’s A LOT of great resources out there!

Thank you for being so helpful it honestly means a lot that you would even reply with something informative

It really depends on the people working. Please don’t generalize all hospitals. Medical workers have a very very hard job, so they’re often stressed and have little patience. Maybe try another hospital but just curious, did you want them to give you something to ease the pain? If so did you ask? Bc there’s probably not much they can really do. The food thing and how they treated your boyfriend sucks tho, im truly sorry they werent more considerate during that time . Hospitals usually just want to make sure you don’t die , especially ER type things.

Damn this shid old my bad LMAO hope ur ok now

You’re welcome. It is miserable to withdraw from opiates. How are you doing now? Were you able to pass your drug test? Were you able to get through the withdrawals all the way? How is your boyfriend?
