Dizzy + vertigo 4 days after quitting?

I quit drinking 4 days ago. I went from drinking nearly a 5th a day of whiskey to nothing. I did take lorazepam for the first 3 days, today is my first day without it and so far so good. Most of my withdrawal symptoms are gone, no sweating, shaking, nausea, my mood is pretty stable, anxiety is manageable, my appetite is back, and I have a reasonable amount of energy. The one thing that is still very bothersome and concerning is the dizziness/vertigo I’ve been experiencing. Sometimes I feel fine, other times I feel like I have to grab a wall or counter or whatever to keep from falling.

Has anyone experienced this? It has gotten slightly better each day, but not by much. My withdrawal was terrible, I was to the point where I was getting auditory hallucinations and for a minute I thought my air conditioner was telling me I was an alcoholic…so a very severe withdrawal. I did it at home but did talk to a doctor to make sure I could take the lorazepam to help with withdrawal symptoms. I was taking a very low dose, at its highest it was .5 mg 2x a day.

Everyone keeps telling me to wait it out, and since I’m only on day 4 of a very serious withdrawal I’m inclined to agree. But I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar and can share what happened?

I’m also taking a b complex vitamin high in b-1, d vitamin, magnesium, zinc, and drinking a ton of water with electrolytes.

Sorry to hear about the vertigo and auditory hallucinations. They happen. Just like sinking through the bed and can’t figure out how to get up. It’s all part of your nervous system working, when it’s not used to it. You’re not ready for it but the brain is kicking you in the butt.
No, it’s not a nice feeling but you’re getting sober. Weird shit is going to happen. It’s been a long time since the synapse responses were last recognised.
If it lasts more than a week and you’re concerned, please see your doctor. Alcoholic seizures are a real thing, and it’s best you keep contact with a medical professional during the withdrawal period

Keep in contact with your doc. I saw a neurologist for my vertigo. If it continues, you should explore that option with your doc.

Thank you, I will. I’m calling tomorrow to see what I should do.

Did you have to go on medication or anything to help with yours?

They did give me meds but they made me sooo sleepy, I threw them out. But the neurologist referred me to a physical therapist. But my vertigo has gotten better as time passes with sobriety.

Took 7 days to get 80% for me… the last 20% was over about two weeks. Everyone is different, some people have peak symptoms day 7-14. Just stay hydrated, get out for walks, and stay away from booze. You never have to feel this way again. Sobriety has been the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself.

Keep us updated! Stay strong friend

Day 5 today and feeling a little bit better! Not great but not a wreck either. I got to go outside and get some exercise today which was a huge mood boost and it really helped my dizziness. Planning on doing the same tomorrow!
