Does anyone take Naltrexone for cravings?

My doctor prescribes me Naltrexone for better control of my cravings. I was having a lot of nausea so I stopped taking it but now I have this tingling feeling in my head as if I was about to pass out… do any of y’all take it? How do you feel about it?

I take the injectable version a la Vivitrol. Works great for me. I don’t have the side effects that I had when I was on Naltrexone. I’m not aware of nausea of being that common of a side effect. Before stopping or starting any medication you should really be discussing it with your doctor.

I take it. When I first started it caused me to be a little “off” in the head or groggy. I’ve gotten use to it and I take it at night instead of the morning.

Yeah you right I probably should talk to my doctor. I just hate the nausea feeling.

Are you on any other meds? Also remind me how long clean you have too. It took a while until my stomach was normal again when I got clean

Yeah I take meds for schizoaffective, anxiety, and depression. I’m 10 months sober.

Might be an interaction then? Your stomach should definitely be good after 10 months lol. How long has the nausea been going on?

For the last 2 weeks of taking naltrexone

Hmm. Well unless you’ve been eating taco Bell every day I would talk to the doctor

It doesn’t work. Have done it a dozen times. It was designed for moderation. It is useless, unless you plan to continue drinking. Then it has a benefit.

I have the bottle but I haven’t taken it yet. I’m a little afraid of taking it to be honest. Anyone havr had any bad reactions or does it really help a lot?

It’s actually supposed to make you feel like shit when you drink so that it rewires your brain to not want to drink anymore. It also blocks your dopamine receptors so that you don’t get the pleasurable feeling from using (more for opiates). It’s worked for a lot of people. I wasn’t a big fan of the pill form, but the injectable version has been great. It’s also designed to be taken along with therapy or counseling of some sort. There’s no such thing as a miracle drug that will stop us from drinking. We still have to do the work ourselves.

I was on Naltrexone for a month. My doctor said it would decrease the pleasure I would get from drinking, and decrease cravings. I was moderating at the time. It did not give me any side effects, certainly not nausea. But I didn’t notice any decrease in cravings. But I don’t think I was very physically dependent on alcohol. It was more a habit and a coping mechanism. I am also on a few mental illness drugs. In any case, talk to your doctor asap. If you stopped taking it, do not start again until you’ve seen your doctor.

I started the pill 3 days ago. It helps ma a lot to cut the edge of the cravings for sure. But I’m feeling a little sleepy all day … maybe the dose is to high or I should start taking it at night.

If you are still in your first 60 days of sobriety the tiredness is normal. Try switching to night, but if you are still tired don’t be alarmed.

I my God I just can believe it 10 days and I feel super tired. Last night I was very cranky … I’m traying to get some exercise in but I feel very low in energy … I hope it gets better !!
I love not been hangover and no more headache … but I just want to stay in bed … I’m taking it slow and watching some movies and reading. The good thing is that my oldest son Broke his ankle and he’s in a cast so we are spending a lot of couch time together … thanks for your advice. I though I was doing something wrong. I want to be able to feel super good and full of energy.

It comes back slowly. Your body needs time to heal. I recommend more couch time lol

I used naltrexone injection twice in my life but actually it didn’t work for me maybe 10 or 12 days and I started using again and again…the only thing that worked for me was the NA 12 steps program

I get my 8th injection tomorrow, but it wouldn’t do me any good without AA and NA
