Does this count?

I’m new here and reading everyone’s challenges and how well they are overcoming makes me wonder if I’m doing the right thing… I have been drinking 2+ bottles of wine most nights and in order to regain control have stopped with wine and now enjoying a beer or two with my husband. I find i can stop with beer but with wine it just opens a floodgate. I guess I’m wondering should I be quitting cold turkey or is this just going to be another crutch? Time will tell. I am counting my days without wine and being in control, not letting craving control me.

I can only speak for myself here… I am an alcoholic and an addict and I am powerless over alcohol. one drink for me, even a sip, and it produces a craving I cannot ignore. now I have been able to “control” my drinking at times but it was difficult and always ended up days, weeks, months later bringing me back to the place I never want to be again. I have changed the brand/type a hundred times and always ended up back to the same routine drinking to excess. I have “experimented” enough to know total abstinence is the only viable option for me… I know we are all different and there is such a thing as heavy drinkers that don’t cross that line to alcoholic… but it is a precarious state and not in my case… I wish you luck on your journey and hope the answers come to you without the pain that took for mine! Keep reading others stories and try to relate not compare… only advice I’ll give lol…

Sometimes people have to drink less and less and sort of slowely stop drinking for health reasons. But since you have been drinking just a beer now , its a good time to just stop completely since the side effects wont be as bad Im hoping.
Get to know yourself sober for awhile since you are wondering whether or not you have a problem. It very well could be a crutch but you wont know unless you try to cut it out completely.

I know that I too am a alcoholic who will down anything to get where I want to be. So I have to cut all booze out. I have tried so many was to quit over the years from buying only what I was to drink at the moment to only drinking beer and all sorts of silky was I was trying to allow mysef to drink when deep down I knew I had to stop. Finally I am 43 days sober. Everyone has to figure out for themselves if alcohol is a problem and in my experience its not the type of alcohol, its the fact that I am an alcoholic and I can not have it.

For me, one drink turns to at least 5, up to 20. I never can have one beer. I quit cold turkey. Some people ween off it, if you do that you have been strict and disciplined, even more so then cold turkey I would think. Alcohol really has no upside. Some people can say “Red wine can help your heart” but so can 1000 other non alcoholic things. Up to you whether or not to quit or ween off it. Just remember it takes about 48 hours for any trace of alcohol you be purged from your body. And 6 weeks to 6 months to recover from abuse of it

I agree with this for me too. At first I would do a few beer night but it soon turns into so much more. I cam never stop at 1 regardless of what kind of alcohol…
