Dogs at AA meetings…

Hi all - long time, I still lurk but don’t post as much  need a bit of advice though before I tackle it

Dogs at AA meetings, it’s only started happening recently in England

What are others opinion on it?

I’d never take my dog because I know some people don’t like them and it’s not fair on others but people keep bringing them

Interesting! The only dogs at meetings here in the northeastern part of the US are service ones. We have a regular blind man that attends Friday nights with his service dog. No one pays attention because we can’t interact with her anyway.

I personally wouldn’t bring mine out of respect for others that either have allergies or just aren’t into dogs.

I’m totally fine with it because I lovvvve dogs, but I think it would be a major distraction. Here in Los Angeles there are dog friendly AA meetings that happen at the park.

That’s my thinking - I don’t get to as many meetings as I used to but every meeting there is at least one dog now :man_shrugging:

The one today was flat faced so it’s all I could hear instead of the reading

That’s my type of meeting :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It would definitely rain here though as I’m in England

We have dogs at our beach meeting over here on the left coast. It’s funny when they read no dogs or smoking etc…. The people that bring their dogs are pretty respectful of others. No one seems to care. I certainly don’t mind. I love seeing Oscar at our meetings. He’s kind of a greeter.

I brought Benson once because it was absolutely necessary. But I wouldn’t bring him to meetings otherwise. Hopefully I never have to bring him again. I rather focus on the meeting.

I think dogs should be allowed at meetings as long as they’re behaving or they are trained properly.. Honestly I think most dogs are more respectful than humans and better behaved. This is definitely an interesting topic and I’ve never seen a dog at a meeting.. But I’m sure in the United States it would probably only have to be a service dog to be there otherwise they probably would say some thing which I think is ridiculous but this is just my opinion.. Everyone is Entitled to their opinion. Also I might be biased because I love dogs and I grew up with dogs my whole life in my family and I really understand them and I think they really can help people.. And sometimes they can create a better atmosphere when they’re around.. more positive

Hi, if someone wants to bring a dog here, besides a service dog, they have to bring it up as a group conscience agenda item before the dog is welcomed or not. It’s an attempt to stay true to the traditions. We decided as a group that we will only have one guest-dog per meeting after a dog fight between two tiny dogs erupted under the tables one week.

Yes I think it would be great. Maybe bring it up at the next meeting.

On the grounds that dogs are simply better than most people I wouldn’t have a problem. Well actually I would because I’d only be paying attention to the dog.
