Early Sobriety Fatigue

Did anyone suffer with fatigue during the early stages of sobriety. I’m 16 days sober from alcohol and my fatigue is crazy. I feel foggy. I just was hoping this goes away and I’m just expecting too much too soon?

Welcome!

Yeah, that’s par for the course. Much of alcohol gets converted to sugar and sugars are either used as fuel for your body or stored as fat. When quitting, your body sudfenly lacks that energy it got used to and you feel tired all the time. Then there is the mental part, your brain is begining the healing process which makes you feel foggy.

Many people begin to crave sweets shortly after quitting, even those who typically don’t like sweets, it’s a way for your body to get that sugar it’s missing, better than drinking I say!

The good news is, it only lasts a few weeks. Hang in there and enjoy the ride!

I definitely did. Rest as much as you can. I discovered the afternoon nap in my early sobriety, best thing ever!! Once your body starts to level out you feel a lot better when you come out of the other side. It takes as long as it takes but if you try and lean into it and take time out where you can you will feel better for it :pray:t2::two_hearts:

Yep, I did as well. Like the others have said it’s very normal. My body started to normalize after a couple of weeks. After the first month was when I started to feel alot different in a better way, if that makes sense.

Thank you for posting. I’m on day 10. Wondered if fatigue was normal. I’m a bit tired, but I sure feel better in the a.m. Wishing you the best in your sobriety. ODAAT.

Welcome to the community Lewis and a huge congrats on surpassing your 2 week milestone.
Fatigue is definitely normal. Our bodies are still recovering from years of poisoning and it unfortunately takes time for all our organs and skin tissue to heal and become healthy.
Keep living a healthy sober lifestyle and you will start seeing the benefits of sobriety.

I did a ton of sleeping when i first quit - sleep is when your body does the bulk of its healing.

I agree with @lorelai that you should get your bloodwork done to see if you need to supplement any vitamins. We don’t realize how a slight deficiency can throw off our system so much.
Looking forward to seeing updates from you.

Absolutely!!!

Your body is working very hard right now to repair any damage that it can. That can be absolutely exhausting, even if all you’re doing is sitting on the couch. I did a lot of sleeping in the beginning
