Ending my sober vacation

I’ve just spent one week in Dominican Republic with my hubby and eldest (youngest decided beach vacation was super boring so stayed home!! :woman_shrugging:t3:) I stayed sober but I’m going to admit this one was a bit harder. Both hubby and daughter were drinking all day….even started with mimosas at breakfast. And that’s fine for them. But I tell y’a, every time I ordered my club soda I felt a little judged by the bartender like I was no fun. Plus the fruity drinks DID look yummy.

I’m kinda looking forward to going home to my herbal teas and Bubly!!

Meh, who cares! You got to wake up fresh and ready everyday to make the most of the trip and enjoy breakfast with your family.

Welcome back!

Good for you! I’m impressed you were able to stay sober with your family drinking. I haven’t been on a vacation since getting sober but I do look forward to those early morning walks on the beach. Not once have I woken up to watch the sunrise when I was in active addiction. I wanted to but those hangovers always got in the way.

I guess it was more when they were handing out free drinks at activities etc….but the pool bar guy did start to recognize me as “the club sofa lady”. :joy:

I’ve been called worse.

Good for you!! That does sound like it was extremely challenging, even for someone with years of sobriety.

Great work staying strong :muscle:

Congratulations!! I’m actually going to the Dominican in 11 days and having some anxiety about it. I have done sober all inclusive before and also felt like the bartender was judging me. I really don’t care what the bartender thinks of me but I didn’t appreciate the attention.

That’s awesome, Sue. I mean, club soda lady!

Oddly it never even occurred to me to order mocktails. I feel like that’s an improvement.

I’d rather be the Club Sober Lady than the Pissed By 11am Lady

Great work Sue staying sober on any vacation can be difficult but especially there where the drinks are cheap and flow super easy it’s a toughy. You’ll be home soon enough with that peppermint, ginger, or ginsing brew.

Screw the bartender
And a big well done for you!! :facepunch:

My husband and I got married in the Domincan Republic. I stayed sober the whole time while surrounded by 45 people who were drinking ALL DAY. To this day, 3 years later, I’m still so happy that I stayed sober the whole time. I was able to enjoy every single moment of our beautiful wedding vacation.
You should be proud.

And crap….I’ve got COVID. No idea when/where I caught it but I only tested when I got home. I feel like a dolt.

Oh no!!! Stupid COVID is still around. I hope you have a very mild case.

Congratulations! That is incredible. You are an inspiration to all of us! As far as the bartender goes, that’s a shame but think of it from his or her motivation, they love nothing better than tourists getting drunk and throwing money all over the place good for you! You are definitely the better person on that one!

Oh no. We came home sick as well, lasted a few days. Seems to be a thing, all our traveling friends have too. Hope you can rest and hydrate.
