Extreme cravings, help?

I’m at 24 days sober which I’m really thrilled about. But it’s been a hell of a day. I knew these kind of days were going to happen but I’m less prepared than I was hoping for. I want to get drinks so bad on the way home and I know how easy it is. The addict in me is trying to trick my brain, it’s chanting, “just one night isn’t that big of a deal” and I know that’s a lie but I’m struggling to fight it.

We have to go out this evening for an event, makes the temptation even more extreme. I have tools to use, writing this now is one of those tools, so I’m going to fight the cravings. Just wish I felt stronger. I use drinking to check out and that desire for checking out is super strong currently.

In the same boat right now , but drove past the store and did not give in. The craving will pass and you will feel so much better going to bed with a clear head and waking up feeling good tomorrow. That is what I’m telling myself . Here for you !

Way to go!! Driving past is sometimes the biggest win! You’re totally right, it’ll be worth it tomorrow.

Wherever you go, don’t drive past any stores you could buy it. I don’t care how far out of the way it is. If there’s going to be alcohol at this event later, do you really have to go out in the first place? If yes, get yourself an NA drink immediately, like soda water w/ lemon(tastes as bad as alcohol anyway) or I usually do a bottle of ginger beer bc it looks the part. Hold onto it the whole time. You’ll make it to day 25

I didn’t think about bringing a drink, good idea. No alcohol will be served but having the diet coke in my hand will help.
Thank you for the support!

Did you go and if so how did it went?
If i had to go to an event like this and could not skip it I would have made my significent other my sober buddy. So he would support me in my sobriaty at the event.
We would go to that event for a short period of time and leave before the people get waisted  Maybe we would have a code word for it so it’s easy to let eachother know we are “done”

Fast forward 12 hours. What way would you feel if you slipped?

We did go but this is basically what I did. I relied heavily on my partner and we didn’t stay long. We also made a plan to head as direct a path home without driving by anywhere that sells alcohol so no last minute temptations

Well, thankfully I managed to not slip, always a big relief come morning time. It would have been a very brief and momentary pay out with a whole ton of guilt and shame as a chaser. I’m glad I was able to fight it.
