It’s the English translation. It’s an huge encyclopedia of French cookery (1200 pages). It’s a really nice book to have.
Have you read French Provincial Cooking by Elizabeth David? I can read that one like a novel. I think you’d like it, the recipes are like little stories.
@Hailstrom Okay so that’s pretty awesome that you can do that. I love butter, but not quite to that extent. I like fatbombs not only because they are fun and I like sweets, but also because sometimes I’m just too busy to stop and eat, and while I tend to not need to eat as often on keto or a low carb diet, sometimes I just need food and I need it to go either for now or because I know I won’t be able to get food later, so they work really well for that. They fulfill my creative baking urges too. I’m really excited about the cookbook picture you posted! I’d never heard of it but it looks really great. I might splurge and buy myself a copy!
@RosaCanDo I’ve heard such great things about Joy of Cooking but for some reason I’ve never gotten myself a copy. I don’t know why, but maybe I should do that. You post such delicious looking food!
@Englishd I died laughing when I read that.
@Ravikamor Me too! That’s literally my most favorite fat bomb book ever. The author has a bunch of recipes online too that are really great. Totally check her out!
@Salty I love cookbooks too! Please do pull some out for us to see if/when it’s convenient! Also every time someone mentions Nova Scotia, “Farewell to Nova Scotia” starts playing in my head.
@C_8 This one looks great! I’m always interested in good keto cookbooks. There are so many these days, so it’s nice to get a recommendation.
You were the only one who liked my posts and for that I am grateful.
I like a good menu, does that count?
Back in Halifax in early 90s, there was a local punk band called Donner Party Reunion. Your post made me think of them.
Do you happen to have the newest Oh She Glows For Dinner that was recently released? Curious how it is. Might pick it up
Just went to basement for mum”s “scrapbook” of recipes that she kept in a photo album and also found these two. I grabbed a bin of her books that I could stuff in my suitcase after she died as I knew they’d likely get tossed when dad was packing.
@Chiron I thought of you as the book on the right, she has both snickerdoodles & pb cookie recipes flagged
Oops I missed this post! That sounds lovely. I’ll have to look it up. I don’t know much about French cooking, so that could be fun, too. Thanks!
What treasures! I have a bunch of recipe cards written by my grandma and my mom, and I own a laminating machine…I’m thinking I should laminate them and put them in a binder for safe keeping.
I was reluctant to open as I know tears will flow and I’m trying to bbq hamburgers so I’ll go through it another time. But a quick glance, lots of newspaper and magazine clipping just loose (from 70/80s) and articles, plus various recipes under the sticker page film, which is nice the writing is preserved. Lots of dessert stuff; Several recipes using soups. Flashbacks to her pork chops with mushroom soup (cringe - sorry mum!)
Looks very familiar! I have some of that, too, but mostly from my grandma and it’s from the 50s/60s. More craft and knitting patterns than recipes, but I love seeing the notes and handwriting, especially. Wonderful.
I remember chops with the soup, lol. That’s a beautiful keepsake.
Lmk if there’s anything interesting from the 70s articles…
That’s so awesome I love that you brought them out for us to see! These are great!
I remember the meatloaf like that too covered in ketchup…
No wonder I don’t cook, lol!
Little late to the party here. I don’t really use cook books anymore. Maybe a recipe here or a recipe there. But we’ve managed to carry this one from house to house over the last 38/39 years. It’s got some basic comfort in it that we use once and awhile.
I don’t own this, but I was looking for books about the Alien movies the other day and this popped up.
Red Pepper Quiche with Sausage Chestburster
I did not know there was a new Oh She Glows. I’ll look into it.
I do also have The Buddhist Chef book…but my copy is in French so it’s only used as for looking at the pictures. I got it at a demo he was doing. I have such a crush on him I had to buy it even though I couldn’t read it.
Oh I’ll have to check that one out. I just looked at his site. Looks good.
Speaking of crush on French chefs, I had one on French Canadian chef Chuck Hughes. I used to have cable and love his show “Chuck’s Day Off” back like 10 years ago or more swoon Something about him. He was in sobriety last I’d heard.
