What are your favorite sculptures, paintings, photos?
by Alexander Milov
in Falkirk at the Falkirk wheel Scotland the KELPIES
‘Freedom’ by Zenos Frudakis
What on earth is that and what is it supposed to convey??
Mine strike in the Borinage (Belgium), 1959. Dolf Kruger.
It’s not a sculpture or painting, but still art nonetheless.
My favorite piece of architecture in the world, Hallgrimskirkja, in Reykavík. I had the pleasure of visiting in 2016 and taking photos. There is, however, a beautiful statue of Leif Eriksson out front.
In another part of the city, a cool viking boat sculpture which I cannot recall the name of.

When I saw the subject of the post, I thought “art” and this is what first popped in my mind. To me the 1988 addition of I.M. Pei’s pyramid to the Louvre Museum in Paris was just perfect! The new with the old! Then to see the Tour de France riders ride in front of it is just bliss!
Favorite sculpture. Hiking up to the,
Christ of the Mines.
Sits at about 10,000 ft in Silverton CO built in the 1950’s. Watching over and blessing the small mining town.
This painting is from a Dutch painter Carel Willink. It’s called: Simon de pilaarheilige.
Translation: Simon the column saint.
All of the paintings of this painter are dark and a bit spooky, like a dream. I like that a lot!
It makes me wonder: what is happening overthere?
I love that.
Saw this for the first time yesterday. Now my favourite combination of photo (by Eddy Posthuma de Boer) and poem (by Cees Nooteboom)
The first picture of God
This how I looked after that first day
I alone with my stones made of stone,
I alone with my skies made of sky
That was the day that I was still happy,
the earth still without form, and void.
Only after did I create the trees,
the animals, the army and that photographer.
Often do I miss that day
on which I made him, the very first.
He and me together in my creation,
I in my purple jacket between my skies of sky,
he with his eye like a mirror on my stones of stone,
and nothing more.
