Feedback on Treatment

Can I get peoples reviews on treatment and if u felt it was helpful in your life. I am struggling with it as I don’t feel like it is personally helping me. I have been through so much emotional and physical abuse I need the tools to better deal with my emotions. I am a serious emotional drinker and group is not helping me with my personal core problem. Feeback on your experience please. Am I just jumping the gun or wasting my time?

I’m not sure but I think you are doing treatment? If so what kind and how often. What services are you receiving? How long have you been there? For me inpatient treatment was the start to recovery. I learned so much! They kicked my ass with the hard stuff. I wish I had tried AA way before I went to rehab.

Treatment varies so much from counselor to counselor let alone place to place. Sounds like you are doing outpatient, which I just completed. I did two different groups as well as had a one on one counselor. My first group was awesome at first and I really liked the counselor. Toward the end some people came in that made it tough to learn anything. My second group I did not like the counselor, but managed to come around to him once I figured out his methods.

Despite it all I still feel that you take out what you put in. If you go in with the mindset that it’s going to help you then you will benefit from it. If you look for problems with it, rather than solutions, problems are what you find. The key to any recovery is to keep an open mind. When we are in early recovery we don’t know shit. We also suffer from terminal uniqueness. We think our story is different and that no one will understand us. It’s that mindset that keeps us sick. These people are professionals. They have heard your story 6 times this year so they know what they are talking about.

I suggest you keep an open mind and keep going. Or you try a new program like AA or SMART or refuge recovery.

Maybe it’s just not the right group or therapist for you.
It took me a long time until I got finally found a therapist that was right for me.

@Winter I think your right. I had an awesome therapist last year but now with this new program I feel like her style is different from this other gal. I don’t know I just feel overwhelmed.

@Englishd I am keeping an open mind but I am paying for a service that I want to make sure I am getting what I paid for.

@Chad_R I am in outpatient treatment. In treatment 3 day a week for 3 hrs with an 1 hr of counseling one on one a week. It’s overwhelming…maybe I’m just going through the hard stuff and it’s kicking my ass too.

I can’t tell you the answer. But one thing that pops out is you like it your way? Can I ask are you a control freak too? If the answer is yes I know a lesson for that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. And acceptance is the key to my happiness. I like things my way and I want it now, so I better get this shit yesterday! But the world doesn’t work that way. This journey you are on will take patience and more work on yourself than you believe you need. Are you learning things about recovery? Are you equipping your toolbox? How honest are you getting with yourself, counselor and group? I assume it’s like 6 months so I suggest if you can gut it out you go balls deep and make it hurt. My rehab experience was probably unique because I got a ton of help but I also threw myself into it. I hope you start to see some benefits. Be strong.

@Chad_R Yes I am a control freak. I started treatment as I felt it was time but this process is never easy. For me it’s hard to revisit those wounds I have for years numbed myself too. At this point I just feel like the tools I need I’m struggling with using. Your right stay open minded and trust the process. Thanks.

Are you paying out of pocket or is insurance covering most of it? If you are paying out of pocket I would probably look somewhere else that’s covered by insurance.

@Englishd paying a big co pay.

Is there any other options available? Insurance companies suck, but sometimes co-pays vary from place to place. There may also be some government sponsored places too. Those co-pays can add up quick
