Feeling bummed

Hello, day 10, no alcohol. I’m struggling tonight with feeling like life isn’t fun without alcohol! Like I would enjoy my evening so much more with a drink. Kind of bumming me out.

Early sobriety does feel like that, boring.

This is a transitional period and is often packed with boredom, but it wont always be like this, it takes time to figure out what you’re all about without alcohol.

There’s a million things you can do without drinking.

Pick a new recipe to make
Play a new video game
Watch a new series or movie
Knit a hat
Paint or color
Do a puzzle
Rearrange your living room
Find things to donate
Learn to code in Python
Go for a walk
Meditate
Do pushups/situps/pullups
Write a sitcom pilot script
Read a book
Learn a new language
Go to an AA meeting

Im sure there’s more you could do…

Congrats on 10 days, thats pretty fantastic!!

Hey great job on 10 days. The beginning is hard. Its best to keep yourself busy and occupied so you dont let your mind feel bored.
Focus on all the shit feelings associted with alcohol - this may help get rid of the romantic notion that it was a good time.

Love the list that Dan gave…change up your routine. Do what you must - just dont give in to that voice. Keep strong and enjoy your Friday!

Feeling lack of motivation too, unfortunately. I appreciate the support and ideas, much needed. I know I’m in a better place without alcohol and this will pass.

Indeed, it will pass! Now, it might pass like a kidney stone, but it’ll pass!

I recall the first few weeks being like, BLEH, but then it was pretty freakin’ rad! Hang in there!

Hey, and don’t worry about motivation, your body is healing, let it have all the rest and couch time it needs!

Hi there, I’m 11 days sober today. I purchased some cream soda and ice cream to have this evening in place of my normal 12 pk. I’m looking forward to another Saturday waking up without a hangover, free of regrets, no worries about what I might have done whilst blackout drunk. I was terrible about completely embarrassing myself by texting, posting something crazy on social, or calling people I shouldn’t have whilst blackout drunk. I’d rather have a boring night than have to suffer the consequences of my drunkness tomorrow. Treat yourself to something you love that isn’t related to your DOC. I am also going to go get myself a bath bomb and relax in the tub with candles, music and my cream soda float. Hang in there! It gets easier with the more days sober. Hugs!

Always reach out here. You’ll find the support, advice and encouragement you need. The feelings you’re feeling will pass. I’m 68 days sober and it takes a bit to get past the habit and cravings. Stay busy.
