Good morning, this is a something that I’ve experienced in the past but have never asked anyone about.
On the few previous occasions I’ve given up the booze for a short time I always wake up very groggy and with a full on head ache in the morning.
And just like magic, I quit 6 days ago and yesterday and today waking up with what feels like a hangover.
I can live with it because it passes within 30 minutes of getting up but I just wondered if anyone had any tips?
I’ve got a fairly decent bedtime routine, the only caffeine I have is a coffee in the morning, my diets ok, I take regular vitamins/minerals and I’ve just got back into exercise.
I like to think it a positive reaction to the body missing alcohol (flushing out toxins and readjusting)
That’s a very positive approach to it! All I can tell you is early sobriety is a rocky time physically and mentally. The most obvious answer is to stay sober and to stop repeating the experience of early sobriety! Stay active here, take to heart the experience of others and keep an open mind.
Yes. I was still getting them here and there even up till the 2 month point. It’s gotten alot better now. Your body is adjusting to not having alcohol to depend on. It’s gonna do all kinda weird shit. Look up Post acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS). From what I been told it can last for quite sometime. Not nearly as bad as active addiction though.
Lookup “phantom hangovers”… I was getting them more or less everyday in the first month.
I still get them occasionally now and strangely they coincide with dreams in which I drink and often I wake up feeling guilty.
One thing I am learning is that recovery takes a long time and it is fairly unique to the person going through it.
I am coming up on 2 months clean now and I am still healing.
When you look into the effect that high alcohol concentration has on your body, your guts and your brain… it takes quite a while to put that stuff right.
Certainly you are thinking about things the right way. Your body is healing too and this is an annoying and uncomfortable side effect. It does become less frequent and less bothersome though. Stick with it.
This happened to me as well for the first month-ish that I was sober. Then it eventually went away. Very normal!
