Feeling strange 🤔

Hi, I am on day 8 today.
I am feeling like im living in a dream today, ive felt good up till this point. Is this to be expected? Also sleep is not forthcoming, my body and mind seem all muddled up.
Any advice gratefully received.
First post so apologies if its not in the right place.

Hi @SoberNanny52 welcome to Talking Sober  :innocent:

What do you mean when you say you feel like you’re “living in a dream”? Do you mean you feel disconnected from your life, kind of detached, like you’re dreaming?

The early days are a rollercoaster :roller_coaster: :slightly_smiling_face:

It will. The early times in sobriety (which can last a while) feel different from when we weren’t sober. It’s good - it’s healthy - but the body is readjusting. Eventually this will pass.

In the meantime be gentle with yourself. Take baths, eat when you’re hungry, nap whenever you’re sleepy, be caring to your body and brain.

I read that you felt okay but detached. I just want to say, I felt the same way. I’m not a psychologist or diagnosing you with anything, but I read it isn’t uncommon to feel what some call an “emotional flatline” after beginning your journey into sobriety. Apparently, it’s harder to feel “happy” or “connected” because we are used to large sums of dopamine from our addictions. After we stop it takes a little while for the brain to regulate itself. This resonated with me greatly and I’m glad to report it DOES get better. Sending you hugs :black_heart:
