I’ve spent over 25 years of my life addicted to Alcohol and Cocaine. I’ve lost good jobs, good friends, thousands of dollars, I’ve fallen into depression and so unhappy with my life that Ive decided I need to change and stop cocaine and alcohol cause it’s ruining my life and holding me back severely. I’m 44 years old, have no license, have no car, dont have my own place, I’ve been working at the same company for over a year now and have not saved any money due to spending on drugs, alcohol and gambling. I need to switch up my lifestyle and start being a better version of myself and find a way to be happier.
Welcome to Talking Sober. First of all, I’m proud of you for having the desire to stop using alcohol and substances. That is the first step toward recovery.
The same thing happened to me. I lost very good jobs, relationships, all my money, cars, gold, and much more—all because of my addiction.
One important thing to understand is that we cannot change the past, and we cannot predict the future. The only thing we truly have is the present—today. So, take it 24 hours at a time, one day at a time.
Take your time and read the thread below. I hope it helps you on your recovery journey.

If your PDX is Portland, there’s a ton of solid recovery there! There are great A.A. meetings in person and online, including the legendary early meeting at 6:30 a.m. it’s a lot easier to get and stay clean and sober with people who get it, and I found that just having people I could call irl and hike etc, with is a huge help. Plus, the 12-steps made a huge quality of life improvement for me. Best of starts to your lifelong journey!
