I’ve been sober for like 4 days…and I’ve been having flu like symptoms ever since, I’ve been waking up feeling like sh*t!!!
Headaches, dry mouth, sore throat, coughing etc! Why is this happening???
I’m finding it so freaking hard I feel like giving up and having a drink! My mind slips into giving up so easy and I have to literally shout at myself and remember why I’m doing this!
I’m just sick of feeling like this, when will I feel better?!?
Squeeze a full lemon into a large glass of water and drink it every morning. It contains lots of vitamin C and it cleans out toxins in the body. I don’t get colds or flus like I used to since I started drinking this.
Whatever it is, it’s not a reason to drink. Staying sober no matter what can be hard work. Hydration, rest, good nutrition can help in most any circumstances. Maybe throw in some pain relievers.
Read the label on any over the counter meds you may get. Cold remedies, especially “night time” ones can contain alcohol.
I remember waking up every morning for 25 years feeling like shit cause i drank…hang in there it will go away and once your sober you will be able to guarantee when you feel like that again you have the flu!
The good news is you only have to go through this once, if you choose “sober forever”.
Take a quality multivitamin. Drink lots of water. You’ll likely start craving sweets as your appetite returns. Indulge your sweet tooth for a time. Light exercise like walking. Take a hot bath or shower. Basically, treat this like you are sick, because you are, but soon you will feel better,
It could be a cold or alcohol withdrawal. Take care of yourself with lots of tea and water, soup, toast. Rest when you can. Being sick sober us way better than being hungover and hopefully you will turn the corner soon. If not, check with your doctor.
I have this theory that when we stop poisoning our body it can finally relax, and sometimes that means letting a cold or flu virus run its course. It happened to me, and you’ll see many people claiming similar situations. You will feel better, I promise!
Physically you should feel a little better after 2-3 weeks, but over time you will still experience PAWS. Giving up an addiction is HARD. You’re body has adapted to the abuse over time and will go into shock (mild, moderate to severe) after you quit. The “mind-fuck” as I’d like to call it, occurs once you start to feel physically better… this is the hardest part and where the hard work comes in. Not sure how long you’ve been on this Forum, but now would be a good time to research and have a plan of action for when this occurs. Doing this alone makes it even more difficult… are you involved/apart of any type of recovery group?
Anyone who abuses alcohol for a long period of time time will experience withdrawal symptoms. Which ones and how intense they are depends on how much you drank, how long you drank and your genetic disposition.
Most people suffer minor withdrawals such as mild shakiness, sleep disturbances, sweating (usually at night), lathargy, confusion, aches, headaches. They usually begin between 1 to 2 days and most intense by day 3 to 5, then it begins to taper off. Most withdrawals symptoms last for 2 to 4 weeks.
Cronic alcoholics can experience life threatening symptoms within 1 to 3 days of quitting. As an example, Cronic alcoholics are ones who get DTs even if their BAC is over .10%. A small percentage of alcoholics are cronic. Most of the medical literature that I’ve seen online about quitting are geared towards the chronic alcoholic.
So, since your 4 days in, you are really almost over the hump, and if you drink, guess what, you are gonna have to go through all that again.
So yeah, quitting sucks, it ain’t no walk in the park, but it’s not going to kill you, but your next drink might!
My advice to you is to listen to the advice of everyone here (they’ve been there before), not that voice telling you to drink.
Oh yeah, sounds like my detox. It sucks, but damn it gets so much better when it’s over! Just be sick, take your time getting better, enjoy some time off work.
I’m on day 8 and still feel flu like symptoms every since day one. Coughing mostly… sore throat. Headaches etc. It’s less intense now… but would really wish this cough would go away. I thought maybe I was just “sick” as well, but after doing some research, countless of other people experience flu like symptoms during detox as well.
I don’t take any medicine at all, because I am very anti RX industry. I’ve been this way even as a drunk. I don’t take Tylenol even if I have a headache. I try to look for natural and hollistic remedies to everything, so lately I’ve just been loading up on vitamin C.
