I used to think my grandma was so weird for putting black pepper on her cantaloupe, and here I am today! This is a muskmelon from the farm stand and it is unbelievably juicy and flavorful.

Again some childhood tastes: plate with everything you find in the fridge
And of course tea. I remember there was tea to every meal when I was young. Guess that’s why I’m a tea lover.

Veggie burrito. The hotel reviews all said to try their breakfast burritos. They did not disappoint! Also chocolate muffin

Today’s kitchen project: chicken stock with my frozen saved up chicken and veggie scraps as well as a couple chicken leg quarters. My fella has a bit of a sick stomach so I’ll use the meat from those to make a chicken and rice soup.

I do exactly the same, i keep a scraps bag in the fridge then use it once a week in a big stock session. Tastes so much nicer.

Weekly is smart! I can’t plan like that, haha! So I keep it in the freezer until I find some time when I feel like doing it. I’ll freeze batches of the stock for other uses.

I have 1.5kgs of black cod bones in the freezer awaiting a session for fish stock… You just reminded me. Also blitz all leftover herbs into liquid and freeze in ice cube trays for stews etc. Or, chopped and in butter ready to slice into steak or fish straight from the freezer.

All great ideas! I’ve considered doing so but haven’t yet. Definitely next year as a way to preserve garden herb harvests!

The stock came out great as usual (it’s different every time but always good, pretty straightforward!) and was an excellent base for this nourishing and comforting lemony chicken and rice soup. I wish I could take credit for the Asiago garlic bread but it was a take-and-bake loaf from the grocery bakery. I WILL try my hand at baking bread this winter!
