Once every two years should keep me in the clear. No Tums in my pocket yet.
Hi Emilie,
Thanks for the picture!
There is a lot of deep-frying going on! But the food looks and sounds delicious!
I hope the salad wasn’t also deep-fried.
I think we had a meme in the corresponding thread about the 3 or 4 flavors of food at fairs. All of them were with some kind of frying.
That’s actually pretty cool. Too bad you couldn’t find the other half.
Thanks.
Good gracious I want this so badly!!! I’m sad we missed out on fair food this year. Next time!
We made it for the last day this year basically so we could walk and eat. The pickle dog was worth the trip. It was so hot that we also discovered a lot of new exhibits by ducking into air conditioned buildings. Win win! Stay cool.
Went to Trader Joe’s today. Okay…really what I did was go to get myself an iced americano 20min from my house. I JUSTIFIED it with a Trader Joe’s trip. The kiddo started to fuss though, and I realized: I should NOT go to Trader Joe’s until I cook the woeful veggies wasting away in my fridge.
My culinary adventures seem to hinge upon what is about to go bad in my fridge these days.
Oh well…it’s better than nothing.
Roasted Chicken sausage, mini potato and onion.
Spinach sautéed in leftover compound butter from the other night with sun dried tomatoes and garden cherry tomatoes sautéed in compound butter.
Pretty tasty!
My sister sent me a recipe for fruits of the forest pie. It’s a mixed berry rhubarb situation that I’m looking forward to cooking in September.
Continuing my no waste streak, I sent her pictures for my creation: fruits of the counter crisp!
Nectarine, strawberry, and apple that were all very close to going bad thickened with some GF flour, honey, vanilla
and coconut sugar,. And a crumble topping with oats, GF flour, coconut sugar, and Ghee.
Last lunch at The Meadow
Chef Fred’s Pastrami with tobacco onions on a Kaiser.
Good looking pickle. @Alisa
Got the fruit to feel or think healthier
That looks freakin tasty! I never really think myself a fan of “baked strawberries”…maybe because I like them so much fresh???
But I gotta say…as I dig into my second piece of crumble today…the strawberries are my favorite part!
It’s kind of giving me the thought that maybe I’d like strawberry rhubarb??? Now…I just gotta find some rhubarb!
Dang it……NO.
BUT I SHOULD HAVE!!
I was using what was in the fridge…and I didn’t have any!
I DID have a bottle of key lime juice…do you think that would have worked? Or it would have tasted too specific?
@Dazercat bye bye Flagstaff house from here… thanks for all the nice food, the mountains and the pines… hello saguaros and desert, soon beach, family and baby!! Wishing you all a nice transition on this part of the adventure! Bye bye favorite restaurants!
@TrustyBird I have never even heard of your delicacy from the fair with the pastrami wrapped pickle! Where have I been all my life?
I googled one or the other and saw you could get part of it at Trader Joe’s!
I always went for the Funnel Cake! Yum!
All the food looks great, thanks @mx_elle for the easy way for the crisp.
Yay you @ELY83 for doing such a great job w your counter and fridge stuff! Exemplary!
I eat hot strawberries in the winter w cinnamon. (Microwave frozen ones until they are hot)

Oh Lord Have Mercy.
I love Texas roadhouse, their rolls and cinnamon butter is unbelievable.
Oooo…I NEVER think of using Lemon Balm in cooking. I have zero idea why. I always just kind of…think that it’s there to smell pretty
I’d imagine it’s perfect with the cucumbers! Do you think it’s perfect anywhere else?
