Fresh Sobriety for myself

I’m recently, today to be exact, committed to my sobriety as I’ve realized my drinking doesn’t help me in any way as well as it hurts my loved ones and I can’t continue hurting them. Any advice or supportive words are much appreciated. Thank you all very much! I’m happy to have found this app.

Welcome!! I am also fairly fresh to sobriety - currently ending day 4. I have tried staying sober many times in the past few months but didn’t bother to set myself up with a good support system.

I currently do talk therapy, go to online AA meetings at least once a week, and also do some reading. Here’s a list of some quit lit reads

Set up support and hop on this app at least once a day. It helps a lot with keeping yourself accountable. I wish you well and hope to see you around!

Congrats on your sobriety. I’m new too, wrapping up day 3 this time. I have made a few, sometimes serious, sometimes half-hearted attempts previously, but this time is different. I am committed to improving my mental health, and a huge part of that involves abstaining from alcohol. Best of luck with your journey. I hope to see you around here.

Welcome! So glad you are here and a huge congrats on deciding to get sober :sparkles::cherry_blossom: thats a huge step and you should be proud.

Im on day 22 and similarly to you, i finally wanted to REALLY get sober because I had finally hurt someone else and didnt want to be that person anymore. I was desperate, so i started going to AA meetings and checking in on here every day. I was desperate enough to give up control and just do what other sober people told me to do whether I wanted to or not. Thats my best advice, your ways arent working so you have to try something else. Find people to be accountable to, like all the wonderful people on here!

It will get hard and you will need tools. Before you drink, check on here, get on a zoom meeting, do ANYTHING else. We are here to support you!

Thank you ALL for the kind words. I’m glad I have people like yourself to help keep me focused and motivated. I’ve walked over my wife so many times, to get my way and let her allow me to drink. NO MORE!! She deserves better and I’m gonna give her what she deserves. Although what I did was wrong, I at least see what I was doing wrong and I’m making a conscious decision to get better and change for the good. Thank you guys a ton!! It means the world to have help at your fingertips.

Welcome! You came to the right place! You are going to feel soooooooooooooooo much better! Every single aspect of your life is going to improve. Sleep, just to name one. But it’s a big one because it connects to a lot of other aspects of your life.

There are a few humps to get over in the beginning. But one of them you have already done already. You made the decision that alcohol was doing absolutely nothing good for you. Only bad. Depending on the person and how long they drink and how much, there’s gonna be some sleepless nights. At least there were for me. Everyone is different, but mine was the worst between day three and five. But by day 10, you are going to have God‘s sleep! You can’t give up or give in, if you do, all the pain you went through to get where you are is gonna come back fivefold. Whatever it takes to stay sober, if that means curling up under the covers, then do it. Exercise will make you feel better, but I felt so horrible in the beginning. I didn’t feel like doing that. So easier said than done, but if you can, that will help.

Once you get over the physical withdrawals, you’re gonna go through a journey and learn a lot about yourself. Everybody’s journey is different, but I absolutely positively recommend you go to an AA meeting. Don’t think about all of the steps or committing to years and years just go to that first meeting. Just listen. You will learn tons and make some quick contacts to reach out if you’re struggling.
But welcome! Keep coming back here, there’s tons of knowledge because we all have something in common. Best wishes! Bob
