Gabapentin withdrawal

Went to rehab, and was overprescribed. I’ve been on a super high dose for two years now, and am now having issues/side effects. I’ve tried to tapper down, but it’s physically exhausting. Has anyone else been thru this? I’m hardly able to eat, I can’t stop shaking my legs and feet. The anxiety and insomnia has become too much to take. I don’t use any other medications except diazepam. I hadn’t taken that more than once or twice a month for breakthrough anxiety, and in the past three days have found it absolutely necessary to just get sleep. I am going to talk to a tellahealth doc tomorrow, but I don’t know what to do. I’m not in danger of hurting myself or others, but can’t stop thinking thinking like why the fuck is this shit even legal!

Did you manage to contact the doc? It defiantly sounds like a good idea, you need personal assistance with this.

I take it for my anxiety. Have been on it for a couple of years now with no issues. Coming off any psychiatric drugs without medical supervision is not the best idea. Most of them have some sort of discontinuation symptoms ranging from mild to severe and your doctor is probably the best person who can help you slowly tapper.

Unfortunately my primary care physician just quit, so I’m stuck with tellahealth. I had an appointment today, but she decided to move it to Monday instead  I just ended up going back to my regular dose, but am still having pretty several after effects. Really trying to not go to a hospital if at all possible, the way my body feels is scary.

Doing a little better today. Just decided to go back to my regular schedule until I can get help. Not my ideal choice, but thank you for everyone who reached out. I hope you all know even a tiny bit of support can really help people and their journeys.

It will likely be a very long drawn out taper to come off it, especially if you are at 3200mg per day. I know this as a prescriber only. Hoping you feel better soon.

Talked to my doc today, and was told the proper way to taper. It’s going to be a few long months least. She also said that I should have most definitely gone to the hospital with the symptoms I was experiencing. If anyone you know is on this medication be sure to tell them the dangers of withdrawals. Literally life threatening if not done correctly.
