So, honestly I feel a little silly knowing, and seeing, so many people who have gotten through their addictions with alcohol and other drugs and being stuck with my cigarettes… I’ve smoked since right after high school and have tried unsuccessfuly to quit several times in the last few years.
I’ve hated my desire to smoke for about 6 years but that’s never been enough… now I HAVE to quit, not for my health but that of my soon to be step-daughter (she has respiratory issues)… I found this app about a week ago and have had to reset my timer 5 times in the last few days (made it to 22 hours earlier today, before grabbing a smoke from a friend that came over).
I know I can do this, but what helped you guys stay away from your addictions in the first few days/weeks?
I feel your frustration man… I smoked on and off for about 10 years, dipped, snuff, you name it, I had to try it… Eventually, I thought I’d try vaping. As much hate and disgust it gets, it’s actually not a bad alternative and here’s why: You can start with a high enough dose that gets you the nicotine you crave but also not have that lingering smell that we are all too well familiar with. The next step is to reduce your mg intake when you feel like you’re ready. I started at 12mg and worked my way down to zero, using a flavor I found repulsive hahaha I haven’t had an urge to vape/smoke for FOUR WEEKS! Not one urge.
I understand that my experience is mine alone but if it worked for me, why wouldn’t it work for something else… Isn’t that how AA started?
What I noticed is that the smell going away made me crave sweet/fruity flavors that I could vape and then eventually I didn’t have that aroma following me around.
Again, this is just how I kicked the habit. I hope this helps =)
Welcome.
I’ve copied and pasted this many times. Going to try a copy the link for you hope it works. If not I’ll copy and paste the old fashioned way.
Good luck
I wish I could vape… I tried and found out that I’m allergic to something in them. I tried switching juices over a few months but it was the same with all of them
I’ve actually added most of this into my life in the last few weeks… especially the water… I’ve managed to o go from 3-4 cups of coffee and 5-6 sodas a day to 1 cup of coffee in the am and 1 soda with dinner (and even that is making me feel blah now) and replaced all of the others with a giant water cup (the ones they hand out in hospital maternity wards lol)… going to have to try that straw thing though.
Thank you
Congrats man I have 10 months since I gave it up. Not as hard as giving up alcohol still my first couple of weeks alot of craving, wanted to stop in every gas station I saw on my way home from work. If you drink that goes hand and hand so you might want to slow down on that as well. Other than that congrats you got this
