Day 16 today and feeling pretty good even though the weather is socked in. Was happy to fight off a pretty big craving to get buzzed yesterday. Used a nice failsafe and got in touch with my buddy/sponsor. I’m going to find a meeting today since Friday night was a bust. Not only do I know it will help, but I’m very curious by nature. Strange how going 16 days without drinking seemed like forever when I made the decision/commitment, yet now it just feels like an eentsy teensy drop in the bucket.
Way to go man I remember when you were on here and it was day one for you!! Keep up the good work and good luck finding a good meeting. Im going tonight myself in hopes of finding a group of individuals I can connect with. Best of luck to you!!!
@Shelbyeriss, I love the support we give each other in this forum and also the way we kind of keep track and look out for one another. I’m sorry to hear about your bad night over the weekend. Hopefully you can slide through that without getting hassled. Sending good vibes your way sis!
Awe thanks man I appreciate it @alpine_1975… Im really hoping I can slide through it as well.I dont know what I was thinking. They told me this wasnt like me and that Iam an asset at work so Im hoping I can keep my job I just have to wait for my owners to get back. We shall see. It was a very dumb irresponsible move I just have no words to express my stupidity. Thank you for looking out and your kind words as well. I feel the same way, that it is pretty great we all have each other to look out for. I would have lost it without you guys…Thank you for the love and support!!!
Good luck @alpine_1975 at finding a meeting that works for you! I was curious/scared going into my first one, but so SO relieved to be around others going through the same thing. Quite an experience. They keep tabs on you as well, so it’s great to have that accountability from them as well in addition to this forum.
@Elisabeth, silly question, but is there some sort of dress code at an aa meeting…? Idk, I’ve never been.
@alpine_1975 Definitely not. Feel free to go in your pj’s if you want. Lol, I did when I went to a 7am.
Do expect to be called on, but know you don’t have to talk - you can always pass and say you’d rather just listen today. In the meetings I’ve gone to they will ask if anyone wants to share if it’s their 1st, 2nd or 3rd meeting and also if you have less than 30 days. I always out myself, but you don’t have to. It seems like because I do they always encourage me to share.
They do this so they can get to know you, not to judge you. You will not find a group of people less judgemental. They want you to succeed and keep coming back.
Sitting outside the meeting nervous as all hell… 3 other cars and a 4th that seems to be the facilitator. They’re all just waiting to go in… ugh.
I hope you feel like you’re at home once you walk in! New things are so hard especially something this big! I hope to get to a meeting tomorrow and I know I will be feeling the same. Let us know how it goes
Hey y’all. The meeting was really good. Met some nice people. It was relatively small I think. 8 of us and a facilitator. I may struggle with the higher power aspect as I’m not a religious person, but also not an atheist. Well we’ll see.
Awesome and congrats @alpine_1975!
The first meeting is always the hardest, or at least it was for me. Now I’m addicted to the fellowship and going to as many meetings as possible. I feel like they are my people, they get me.
There’s also a chapter in the big book for agnostics fyi. Good read.
@alpine_1975 You don’t have to be religious. The point of the Higher Power thing is to not depend on your own willpower. You can make your AA meeting group as a whole your HP. You’re surrendering your self will to something greater than yourself. You’re no longer letting alcohol be your Higher Power. And yes, read We Agnostics in the big book.
