Welcome, Jon, to Talking Sober.
Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right. So think positive! What helped me very much in early days was just focusing on today, and doing what I needed to get a sober head on my pillow at night. After I did the math, figuring in time spent traveling to and from work, and therapy, and an AA meeting every day, it came down to just a couple of hours where I was “unsupervised” per day. It was not the godawful forever long stretch of boring time I thought that sobriety would be - it was just two or so hours, and I could handle that.
People are urging you to take action. Actions to connect with other people, particularly other sober people, will combat addiction most effectively. There are so many resources here, I will cite just one to get you started.
