Going to bed on day 3 sober. Prepping for the 4 or 5 day relapse wall

It’s been over a year since I’ve been able to go more than 4 days without drinking. I always hit a wall at day 4 or 5 and relapse. Previous to last couple years I always could do Sober October or Dry January with either no drinks or one or two hiccups but then back to the drinking as usual.

But now I want to be one the path of cutting it out completely. My main motivation is I just had a daughter a month ago.

Just looking for some support to make it past day 4 and 5 this time. New to the sober talk community

You absolutely can do it.. anticipate the urge close it down. Eat, drink, go for a walk if able. Let it pass gracefully and acknowledge the win. Every time you flex that sober muscle it gets stronger :flexed_biceps:

As @Dustysprungfield said, you can absolutely do it :flexed_biceps: stay strong, dig deep and find distractions, anything to take your mind away from the urge. Be kind to yourself and let it pass because it definitely will :100:

Can you get and read some books about it. This helped me the most.

Welcome, Jon, to Talking Sober.

Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right. So think positive! What helped me very much in early days was just focusing on today, and doing what I needed to get a sober head on my pillow at night. After I did the math, figuring in time spent traveling to and from work, and therapy, and an AA meeting every day, it came down to just a couple of hours where I was “unsupervised” per day. It was not the godawful forever long stretch of boring time I thought that sobriety would be - it was just two or so hours, and I could handle that.

People are urging you to take action. Actions to connect with other people, particularly other sober people, will combat addiction most effectively. There are so many resources here, I will cite just one to get you started.

Congrats on 3 days!
Check out this thread, stay hydrated, eat well, have some sweets at hand to squash the cravings, fake it till you make it, rest and out your sober head on the pillow at night. Just today. Tomorrow: repeat.

Congratulations on your 3 days….I really want you to know that you have the power over that 4/5 day wall….all too often we think that this addiction controls us but it doesn’t have to be that way…control not having that first one and do it one day at a time, all that matters each day is you hit that pillow sober each night…if you find it difficult then you reach out to us and talk it out, its what we are here for

Substituting with sparkling waters really has helped me with urges and cravings!! As well as naming the voice that says I want a drink :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome Jon.
Congratulations on that precious bundle of joy. I retrained my brain over here practicing gratitude daily. Sometimes even more than daily. I read it I wrote it I now live it.

Such a powerful tool.

Congratulations on your 3 days :tada:
One of the things that helped me in those challenging early days was reaching out here when really bad cravings hit. Just sharing how I was feeling with others who have been there was helpful. Keep taking it one day at a time .
