Has anyone used exercise, diet and fitness as a tool to help prevent relapse? Proud of yourself? I’m proud of you and proud of myself as well. Here’s a couple pic of me gett’n in shape and I hope you’ll share yours with us. Working hard at this and seeing results is a major boost for my confidence as it doesn’t come easy… just like sobriety :))
Damn!! If thats the progress from the gym I’m sticking to it!
Fair play sobriety and fitness suit you
I don’t have pictures of me with a ripping six pack.
But I do have a tail of getting better at something through change.
18 months ago I thought I’d jump on the keep fit bandwagon that a lot of guys were enjoying. So I set up my wife’s old cross trainer in the garage after it had been hiding in there because it was taking up space in our bedroom! ( note here that we actually lost a very good clothes horse!)
Anywho, it didn’t work, after a couple of sessions it was forgotten about.
About the same time I discovered a mountain in south Wales, and all it historical background.
This proved a challenge for me as when I climbed it I suddenly realised that being a builder does not mean I am fit!
Anywho, long story short i completed what is known as The Fan Dance in the special forces world in 4.12 hours. The 16 mile course over the highest mountain in South Wales and back has to be done in under 4 hours by guys 25 years my younger.
No rigourous training schedule, just me a 30lb ruck and my local hill.
Nature is my gym.
Yes sir. I love doing all, lifting gives me the look. Mountains give me the endurance, and biking love it all. Once I get my license I plan on hitting some much more challenging mountains.
I was told by the course director that " I’m obviously fitter than I look"
That is probably the best thing anyone has ever said to me!
Haha I like that. Certainly makes u feel good, don’t have to look in shape when your mind wants something you can do anything u want
Oh yeah. I joined a running club in September. Just after over a year sober. But otherwise run is my passion for much longer
I went through a lots of different stages of body shape in last years, because besides alcoholism I also suffered from an eating dissorder…
Sorry if you’ve already seen some of the photos elsewhere on this app. before. I might have shared them already in different topics.
I loooove running the best high and greatest feeling you look GREAT btw you remind me of the Australian girl I had a huge crush on in high school
Hahahaha yes! My kind of humor, masterfully done.
Thank you
Geo that is a badass story my friend, and Jana… you look fucking amazing. So many benefits to punishing your body and mind in the right way instead of drinking and using drugs. My endorphins soar after leg day and I feel so proud for pushing thru the pain. I was just curious how many people use this to cope. Does anyone cross addict with exercise? I have to be really careful in that area because I have a tendency to take things a little far as I struggle with a very addictive personality
Ahahaha, it’s not me. I’m living in UK and I’m originally Czech
I have recently noticed it becoming a new slight addiction for me. It’s not bad though. I bought a new stationary bike for home and intend to shed some serious kgs whilst still in lock down here in Australia… And I’m blown away with how much I’ve been challenging myself each day to hit my increased time and making sure I work out twice in a day…ive Hit a wall the last few days, just been feeling flat oddly, and I miss the bike SO much already… It’s been three or four days now off and I can see the addition in clear sight lol… It’s not a bad thing though. It makes me feel so. Good.
Not quite that far. My wife did ask if I was going to become one of those types.
I do enjoy it, and now seeing and feeling the change, it does keep me going.
Oh yes I love being outdoors. We don’t have any mountains in my village, but chopping woods, walking in the forest and having at least a 45 mins walk to the closest friend (I’ve got no drivers license) and maybe take a swim in the river is enough exercise for me
That sounds like heaven!
