I have found that acknowledging the craving can help. Take a moment to notice it, feel where it is in the body etc. Label it as a craving. Remember the discomfort will pass and that giving into the craving will actually cause more craving.
@siand Yes to that! A little more poetic way of describing what you just did is this little piece of prose by Bertram, another ex-smoker I knew from the quit smoking site. I might have shared it before here but I don’t care, it might be of some help. Keep going ladies. ODAAT.
“Fighting craves can wear you out… next time perhaps give this a try… When a crave starts… find somewhere to relax ~ lay down or a find a comfortable chair, standing will work though. Close your eyes… relax your body… remain calm, allow your crave complete control… allow it to run it’s course ~ completely ~ start to finish… until it stops… allow it to enter your mind… The first time may be intense, sort of like a vibration running through your head… relax… remain calm, lower your shoulders often, allow the crave to run it’s course… until it stops, you will be okay… … Embrace your craves, experience them… learn from them…ride them out… every time… ride them out… you will be okay… Craves are proof nicotine levels are lowering… embrace them… learn from them… Practicing this method will allow the very essence of your addiction to manifest itself… your courage will grow… There will be anxiety/stress… walking bathing or light household activities will help… try to walk often… namaste.”
I’m feeling alittle better thanks Siand. It really helps to talk it out/share how I’m feeling. It was a lovely distraction getting out with the kids
Thanks for that @Mno it definitely helps to acknowledge, accept and process the cravings. I also try to turn it into positives. Instead of “my body needs nicotine”, I tell myself “my body is ridding itself of poison” so these cravings as a positive not a negative. Still awful though but it passes and long term the fight will be worth it. The power of positive thinking lol.
Hey everyone, I’m not posting much because I’m struggling a bit with low blood pressure (the bottom diastolic number) and so I’m feeling a bit off kilter, sometimes dizzy and disorientated, but reading all your posts.
I am still going strong. 11 days of non smoking. In the evenings it is tough, and I turn into a even more grumpy guy then I was before. But I can handle it and I am determent to keep on gone.
@siand Congratulations with your 1 month of non smoking. This is such a amazing milestone! Proud of you
Woohoo day 11 go you!!! Awesome Roland!!!
Day 5 here and yep nights are the worst! Actually around 3pm it starts kicking in pretty bad until bedtime. But like you, I’m hanging in there. It can only get easier from here right
Thanks @ShadowFax Feeling much better thank you. Well guys and girls, making lifestyle changes, makes you fitter, healthier, and your heart, lungs, organs, basically everything, works more effectively. When all these things start improving, certain medications need to be modified, so there you have it.
Well I am not sure about this yet The last year I quite a few times, the first week always felt more ‘‘easy’’ to me. After two weeks the habit comes back and always the same old story… ‘‘I can quit for 2 weeks so I am not addict’’ same shit different addiction. So I am convinced after 2 weeks starts the real deal, at least for me. That’s when my brain is start playing tricks on me
But I doesn’t matter if it starts to be easier or tougher…We got this anyway! No smoking anymore ever!
Heyy everyone! So im qutting vaping i started off by dropping from 18mg (that ive had for years now…) to 12 and then 6 and now im stopping all together. Going to be hard as i literally am on it all day long!
Wishing you all success Stormy! Nicotine is a tough one to beat but it can be done! Make sure to check in and ask for help. Also there’s a lot of good supportive stuff already in this thread. @ShadowFax Having this old geezer who loves to smoke his pipe and talk tobacco lore with his woolly footed small friends , maybe isn’t the best one to have as your avatar when you’re trying to stay quit… Just saying
You can do this Stormy! Keep yourself/hands busy and occupied. I find idle and stressful times to be when the urges are worse, so trying to keep them to a minimum has helped. The mental addiction seems to be much harder than the physical addiction
I’m on day 6 today and was smoking 15-20 cigarettes a day it isn’t easy but the urges pass and I’m praying it gets easier with time.
@Mno sharp as ever. I wasn’t even a aware of this. If it is not for me maybe I should change it for other people who are trying to quite. Thanks you my friend
@stormy good luck with dropping on the nicotine. Sending you strength . Nicotine is tough , but if you determined it is possible. Good luck!
