Grumpy A-holes (quitting cigarettes/ nicotine products) (Part 1)

By the end of today I will be 10 days cigarette free.
It’s a start. Thought I had this habit kicked back when I got to eight months and again when I had around a year and a half. Just like they say in Alcoholics Anonymous, cunning, baffling and powerful.

Well done- double digits are a coming your way
We really do have to always be aware of our addictions…i had 2 years of not smoking - found myself facing a trauma while i was back in a familiar setting and before i knew it i was smoking again…its taken me about 2 decades to give it up again. Like anything else - its odaat…you are stronger than your addiction and like u would say…ya you

It’s hard at times but on the other hand it’s very simple. Not One Puff Ever. NOPE. We can’t fail if we remind ourselves of that. NOPE ODAAT.

Hey crew…im mentally preparing to quit vaping nicotine. Ive smoked or vaped for the last 20 years. Its a very pricey addiction and after kicking alcohol to the curb 14 months ago i feel i am ready. My therapist challenged me this past week and i set the date of august 1st.

In preparation, im trying to be more mindful of my habits. Im also googling tips and tricks. I signed up for quit texts. Im saving a ted talk for day one.

Sure, i get that todays the best day to quit but im set on august 1st

8483 days since I quit smoking

For some reason last night I dreamt I was smoking and I woke up this morning for the first time in ages thinking about it. Never likely to happen and the thought was dismissed within seconds, was just so weird that after so long it was still in the back of my mind somewhere! I don’t remember the last conscious though I had about having a cigarette, however it just shows how an addiction never really leaves you.

Good luck to those new on the journey, your will power is your biggest asset, use it while its strong and you want to succeed, it will stay strong, allow it to weaken and you risk it breaking!

3 days cigg/vape free

Today my mood has been up and down
I was grouchy mostly

The cravings were driving me crazy but now that I have only 1 hour and 20min left of work I’m feeling relieved I didn’t give in today and I get to go home without smelling like nicotine

@BrOKenWolf
I heard that the feeling of wanting a cig or vape might take a long time or even never go away
That is fine with me but I hate this withdrawal stuff. My heads a merry go round

It does subside and it’s no pleasure cruise for the first few weeks, you have to remember that your body is wanting the toxins that you are now denying it. Any change to routine/lifestyle takes 3 weeks of consistency to become habit. After that you should start to find it a little easier.

I reckon it was about 8 - 10 years since the last time had a conscious thought about smoking, I work with and sometimes socialise with smokers so there are plenty of triggers etc, was just so weird that a dream was what caused me to think about having one.

At 4:45 I’ll have 4 days without the cigs/vape

Made it to work without picking up the vape this morning

The withdrawal is calmed at the moment
I’m sure by 6 I’ll be exosted from work and craving and maybe withdrawing a bit but that’s what I got to do

Take care everyone
I’m clocking in

@Cjp
Congratulations for making the decision. Now you need the commitment. It is a habit. Once you take a puff you immediately go into withdrawals for the next puff. Remember that the craves will come and they will go. They will be there, they will wash over you and they will go away. They are not going to hurt you. When you take a puff it’s going to start it all over.
Friends of mine have taken Straws, Cut them in thirds, put a cotton ball in the end, and “smoke” them.
I chewed a ton of gum. Lots and lots and lots. Sugar-free gum I popped it like candy. Sugar-free candies might be helpful for you. And lots of super low calorie snacks. You will never regret your decision to have stopped smoking. Your body begins to heal as soon as you quit.
I’m really proud of you for deciding to take this on. You can do it. You just have to walk away from it and tell it to FR0.
Get that chain off of your neck. The ideas that you have are good ones.
Then you can get a money counter going on it and you will have your trip paid for!! Thinking about you and I’m happy for you that you decided to do it.
You and everyone else who decides to do it.
When I quit I thought why did I wait so long to do this. I made the mistake of using nicotine replacement which was not the thing to do for me. It just made me want more and more nicotine. I’ll take the patch off and smoke 10 cigarettes.
I think in my opinion cold turkey is the way to do it. Get the nicotine out of your body.
Once you get away from it some you’ll think the same thing. You have to get away from it for a while.
Editing to add that you are so pretty and you glow in a nice beautiful way. Look out world after you quit smoking. It’s a huge beauty boost. :grinning:

Good. I used nicotine replacement for a few years. All it did was make me smoke more. And it cost an incredible amount of money.
That’s me personally. Regardless of whether it was a gum the patch or whatever.
I could stop and start 10 times a day.
It wasn’t until I said I’m done with the NRT I’m going cold turkey that I was successful.
It has its place, it wasn’t the place for me, personally.
You are not going to writhe on the floor with withdrawals from quitting smoking.
I was thinking about you and thinking getting a whole bunch of little baby tomatoes in a bowl would be nice. Carrot sticks, celery. All cut up and ready to go get if you wanted to. It’s so much a hand to mouth thing as it is an actual nicotine addiction. It’s Very much a mental habit. Also if you stick to your regular eating times which you are already in tune with doing. That’s the best thing. You are already on a schedule. So that’s good.

I think it takes seven minutes to smoke a cigarette or to smoke the Vape. Anyway you have stairs in your house. Instead of the Vape go up and down those stairs for that amount of time. Big payoff right there. Or do some other activity like that for the same amount of time. You will get that energy out of you. I had a friend who used to go out and hit or hug a tree. She was an earth mama too.

Finally passed 4 full days without a cigg/vape

I had no clue I would feel sick from quitting this stuff

My stomach is a mess and I’m so irritable and even feel depression creep in from all the withdrawal from the cigs/vape

I never thought it was going to be this bad

I have gum and lossinges which no doubt add to the stomach issues but the depression magically goes away after I take the lossinges

Very expensive but it will save me from the cigs/vape in the future which will save me money

I think I’ve gone 5 days but that was with about 5 puffs of the vape and hour.

After I felt this way, I don’t ever want to go back to nicotine
