@SassyBoomer I feel your pain. When we go to the hospital for treatment we are always greeted with clouds of smoke at the entrances despite there being a no smoking policy in hospital grounds. All the smokers are patients or outpatients awaiting cancer treatments.
Iāve attended my monthly womenās meeting today. Iāve never smoked in my life. Maybe a handful of cigarettes but nothing i ever liked about it. I couldnāt get drunk from it.
Anyways. A woman started and said that for some weeks now she gave herself the allowance to have one cigarette in the evening. And that she discovered that she wanted to be less hard on herself. It was at the end before I had to leave to get to my train now but it was like 3/4 of the others were looking puzzled and I was one of them. Gigantic alarm bells rang in my head. The romanticising about being more gentle to oneself. Like would I be gentle towards myself having a glass of wine starting this evening. Idk. Just needed to let my thoughts here. I have of course no addiction experience with tobacco.
Thatās a lot of healthy breathing! ![]()
Definitely would have rang for me as well!
This is a big reason why I decided to also quit nicotine. The thought patterns and behaviors surrounding an addictive chemical like nicotine always kind of reminded me of the same patterns and behaviors surrounding alcohol/cocaine/THC. If I was willing to give into my nicotine cravings I felt more likely to give into others. Eliminating it gave me more confidence in my sobriety and was definitely a good decision for me!
Yesterday i smoked arround 50 cigsā¦
Today only 10 maybe one More.
Whats your goal @BackOnTheRoad
Quit Smoking cigarettes
I am sorry. I hate that you got this package. Who the hell sent it to you? Vape devil???
Yes you can, no doubt ![]()
Keep on the path of reduction and you can get there. I couldnt moderate. It almost took too much mental energy so i had to quit cold turkey.
Your lungs and body will thank you!
Aww @Tragicfarinelli so sorry about the slip. Get rid of em and start again. You can do it. Check in here as often as you need.

Hey i get it. I cut one addiction at a time. Some people can quit everything all at once. My biggest demon was alcohol so i focused on getting some good sober time before i felt ready to cut nicotine. Everyones journey looks different.
1st step is contemplation. 2nd step is a plan. 3rd step is execution
Get back to quitting friend. If you have them around, youāll use them.
Yes youre right
I was thinking earlier today how I can be around people who drink alcohol and be perfectly content. I feel just as connected to them and their conversation as the others who are drinking. Iāve never had a tongue for alcohol, so I can take a sip and not think about itā¦wellā¦ever again.
I can sit down and have meaningful conversations with people who are eating and participate without eating. Albeit, it makes it less awkward if Iām at least drinking a glass of water or have a hot beverage.
I donāt do drugs. So, I donāt affiliate myself with being in that environment; albeit, my younger sister and her husband are super addicted to weed. I do everything I can to not get a contact buzzā¦but sometimes just being around them outside is enough!
Yet, there is this disconnect when it comes to smoking. I want to smoke and talk. For me, it feels more comfortable and genuine. Honest.
And, I have to admit this is my addicted self convincing me of this.
I keep looking at my timer, every hourāalmost to the dot. Iām trying to unpack just getting through the waves of wanting them before unloading metaphysical ideas like connection. ![]()
Here in Detox everybody smokes, hard to quit Here ![]()
I actually started smoking again because the psych ward allowed smoking⦠and they had ācommunity cigarettesā⦠and I thought what the hell, why not?
You donāt need to quit all of your addictions at the same time. Itās okay to get really strong foundations with some before working on the other ones.
I just decided to quit smoking as
1 its my birthday and figured each year thatās an awesome gift
2 way too expensive
3 I am now 85 days sober from alcohol
I am using the patch to help as quitting cold turkey would be an issue for me. I want a healthier lifestyle and start to implement healthier daily activities to my life.
