Well I had one for employment once, supposedly they only went back 3 months but I had nothing to worry about. They also took armpit hair because my head was shaved.

It can go back 3-6 months.
Haven’t had one but my work does them if the regular screening (urine test) is positive or they have reason to suspect the hair follicle test is required (e.g. if someone is suspected of drugs use with drugs that clear the system quickly so may not show in urine tests) - the party-hard Friday, clean by Monday scenario.
They can be very accurate in detection.

6 months for hair, 30 days on blood, 100hrs on most urine drug screens. I did have hair, blood & urine done in 2017 prior to rehab. Shows not only what, if they are testing for it, but levels of metabolites over time… daily user/drinker or binge type use. They had me pegged, but I was ready to be done. Hope this helps.

Every centre metre of head hair shows a month. They can actually go back years depending on hair length, it’s debatable though that over time hair becomes damaged and can effect the results. But generally it is 90 days from research Iv done. Iv not experienced having one.
Body hair is also used and some substances will stay in body hair for longer times.
Hair follicle tests can show absitenence, regular use @Smitty97 has it right there about being able to tell usage very well through them.

A hair folicle test goes back ten years according to the last time I had one done in 2007

They checked 10 years of usage/abstinence?
Where the results they had accurate for the 10 years ?
Just really curious about what they came up with going back 10 years worth.

Well to be honest they didn’t find anything on me I sobered up in. October 30th of 1991. So by 2001. I didn’t have anything in my system for over the last 10 years. Since they did the hair follicle test in 2007 years didn’t really matter.

10 years may be true in very rare cases.
For a hair follicle test to go far back in time you need a longer and longer hair sample.
A standard 90 day test requires a sample about 1.5 inches long. You need to keep sampling longer and longer hair to go back further and even then most testing will only go back as far as a year.
Add to this the natural cycle of hair growth - a single scalp hair grows for about three years then falls out and the follicle rests for up to six months, before sprouting a new hair - and it is almost impossible to test back 10 years.
Only a very rare person has follicles which don’t follow this cycle. These people can grow that crazy long hair not everyone can grow - our hair length is ultimately limited by our follicle cycle and how long it can grow before falling out. Some people’s cycle can be 7-10 years but it is very rare.
I call bullshit on them claiming 10 years… They were just trying to scare you all.
