Haven't been able to quit

I haven’t been able to make it past day two twice already. I have been drinking daily for a month. I’m just scared, lost, ashamed, sad. :disappointed:
But I really want to stop.

Welcome Jessica!
I couldn’t stay sober on my own willpower. I had to surrender and ask for help. I found that help in the rooms of AA. Honestly, I thought AA was for the drunks I saw on the corner drinking out of a brown paper bag. Boy was I wrong. Those people come from all different walks of life, but when we get in that room, we’re all the same - just a bunch of like minded people supporting each other and finding a better way to live life.

If you haven’t already found a program, I urge you to do so. Many out there to choose from (AA, SMART, Dharma etc). Find one that suits you and put the work in.

Wishing you the best on your journey!

A friend is taking me to an AA meeting tomorrow. I just hope I can get through the day.

You can do it. Find something to distract you today. An audiobook, a movie marathon, something to pass the time. And a lot of non alcoholic drinks to keep your thirst at bay.

Happy to hear a friend is taking you to a meeting. There’s an app called everything AA with some great literature. I really like the living sober book and it’s free on that app. Maybe download that app and do some reading or listening if you feel uneasy.

Thank you, I just downloaded that app.

We’re glad you’re here. Many of us have felt the same as you. I’ve been going to as many AA meetings as I can. I go to AA “big book” studies, church, celebrate recovery, and pray. I also hang out with sober friends from AA. It’s been working for me. I highly recommend getting a sponsor and working the steps once you feel comfortable in AA and get to know people. You can do it!! :muscle:

Is in patient tretment an option to get your bearings about you?

No, I don’t think so. I just really want to get my life back. I am getting help though, I have an appointment for a substance abuse center on Thursday. But I’m scared of the withdrawals tonight. :disappointed:

Then let’s collectively hold each other up tonight, all of us currently struggling, may we keep the strength to move forward in our path to recovery. May we have a good day and night, may our thoughts rest, may we get some sleep tonight.

Hi, how does one get a sponsor? Is it there at the meeting?

You will find one in an AA meeting. The more you go the more you will hear everyone’s story/experience. Listen for the similarities, the way they present themselves, and how much sober time they have. If you like what they share you might want to ask them to be your sponsor. If they say “no” don’t give up. Also, if/when you share you can put it out there “I’m looking for a sponsor.” They are caring and supportive just like the people are here in this group.

Hi everyone, today is the beginning of day 2, it was so bad yesterday with all the physical symptoms and sadness, despair. Luckily I was able to sleep about 5 hours last night. Feeling somewhat better today, my mind a bit clearer, less headache, and at least I can walk normally, yesterday even walking was a struggle. But I am hopeful and determined to get out of this hell once and for all.
Thank you everyone for your support, god knows any kindness and support thrown my way is sorely needed.

You can do this my friend.

I also agree with the concept of surrendering and giving our lives over to HP. Go to that AA meeting and keep going back!

Glad you are feeling a bit better Jessica
Keep yourself hydratated and rest when you can.
Be prepared to have more cravings when you are going to feel better. What helped me back then was keeping myself active with walking, working out, cleaning, etc. Every distraction helps!
And if that wouldn’t work, I came here to vent.
All that helped me to string a significant amount of sober days together and still doing so.
I wish you the same.
Keep going, you can do this!
We are here to support you allong the way :facepunch:
