Help with sugar cravings!

Ever since I got sober I have had to battle sweets!!! What are you guys doing to tame the beast??!

I lived with it. Get a piece of cake or a kitkat within a 100 yrds of me and it was inhaled. Soon enough, the sugar cravings leveled out. There were fewer calories in the sweets compared to the booze…and I didnt do stupid things under the influence of cake.

Total abstinence. Sugar is like cocaine, it triggers the same areas of the brain. If you stop consuming sugar your brain will get clean and will stop craving sugar. I think sugat really works like substance addiction.
Also, try to avoid zero cal sweetners. Even if it has no calories, it still fools the brain that you are having sugar, to a certain degree. You need to stop using it completely.
I know its hard and it sucks but i think thats the best way

That was over 800 days ago. I dont inhale those items anymore. However, thank you for the concern and advice.

But that was my point. If you manage to stay away from sugar for 800 days, you will probably be free of it. The longer you avoid consuming, the less of it your brain will crave it.
And duh, sorry, my reply was to @Kiki1, for some reason i replied to you. Im sleepy :hugs:

I used sugar initially to deal with cravings. Your body is used to alcohol providing carbohydrate. In the book ‘Living Sober’ one of its tips is to eat something sweet. But there’s the thing: you don’t need to eat sugar, as @Pman says. That said, our bodies aren’t always fooled. Studies have shown that switching to sugar free sweetened drinks does not help us lose weight, except when aspartame is used as the sweetener. So try things out and I’m sure after a while the cravings for sugar will stop. It did for me.

Thanks so much! I never even thought about it that way! I think I’ll just apply the 12 steps of recovery to this issue as well exclamation

Well at least I know there is hope for me now!

@Kiki1 absolutely! Apply the steps, and if you are like me, addicted to food and/or overeating there’s a program for it called Overeaters Anonymous. It can be found all over, and right now there are Zoom meetings available. If not in your area, try checking out the big cities. I couldn’t manage without support and I have no trouble admitting I am powerless over many foods. I wish you luck.

Since I am new here, I will admit there are many things I have not figured out. At this point I have problems just posting.. However, if there’s a way to send a message to me and you have questions, please feel free to do that.
