Snelsmore nature reserve and common
West Berkshire, UK
Having a cheeky gingerbread coffee from the flask!
On the way home we visited Burnham Beeches, a natural ancient woodland. Some of Harry Potter was filmed here. I’ve been here before, but it’s always magical. We spotted the cutest Muntjac deer whilst walking ![]()

The forest floor was absolutely heaving with big fat rusty coloured Army Ants and we found two of their ‘mounds’ or nests?
Crazy to see them all milling about carrying stuff efficiently and in order. Freaked me out that I was walking on them, so I had to divert onto a road path after apologising to them all as I hopped across the fauna!
The very beautiful Donnington castle ruins.
Fun fact. This castle was gifted to Alice Chaucer in 1415 when she was just ten years old. Sure beats a hamster ![]()

Same here I used to spend a lot of time there when I was younger and have always felt drawn to it. Today was so good I felt alive and genuinely happy. My body is sore I ache in every muscle but it was worth it. Being sober is starting to feel good!
I reckon reconnecting with what little Lee / inner Lee was like and does like is starting to feel good… We can tolerate anything with the blinkers of alcohol on, it’s much harder to truly be in touch with our purpose and drive completely innocently.
I spent most my childhood on holiday near and around the Brixham area, so that region is really special to me.
Thanks for that you could well be right. For me it’s the cold realisation of the damage I’ve done to my body but I’m getting to except it and understand that my old lifestyle will forever be in my past.
I hope you get the chance to come back down sometime to relive some of your childhood memories and explore Devon some more ![]()
After almost two decades of dreaming…stymied by active addiction…at 1 year and 5 months sober I have completed my dream hike of a section of the Appalachian Trail (Mass., Vermont & New Hampshire). ![]()
