Hitting the Wall in recovery

im almost 4 months into my recovery and lately i have been having a sort of F it attitutde towards things and finding myself questioning if i really can have a drink in the future. This kind of thinking is throwing all kinds of red flags my way, so i decided to go look through the “stages of recovery” again and sure enough i am at the dreaded “wall” stage of recovery. here is a good link of these stages. If you are feeling a bit off or maybe too overconfident in your recovery and are a few months into it, check out some of these stages.

Stage Three: The hallmark of “the wall” stage is boredom and fatigue. Due to drug and alcohol constant use, the body is healing from substance abuse effects, even though it has been two to four months from last use.

@Steve92 I’m glad you’re seeing it and taking this seriously. We are experts at convincing ourselves and making excuses to return to bad behavior even though we truly know how well that works  What do you think you need to add to your sobriety toolbox to move through the boredom and fatigue? Complacency was the big one for me…that’s why I’m always on here…I fear it so I stay plugged in. I know what complacency did to me last time :head_bandage: :cloud_tornado: If I can’t be on here or at a meeting, I text my sober sisters from this forum (maybe think about setting up a guys support system here via private chat) Think outside the box.

@Steve92 looks like we both hitting the wall! I’m finding difficult adjusting to sober ways. I don’t have any cravings to drink but I’m pondering whether i could moderate, drink just socially etc grrr

That’s your addict brain talking. It’s cunning and patient so don’t fall for it.

I was definitely identifying with this stage a few weeks ago. Times I would look at alcohol and think, “no one would know,” “I deserve this,” “I’ll only have one,” the excuses went on.

I was feeling pretty bored. I started a new project and that seemed to help. Sometimes it’s hard to shake that feeling off. My sponsor gave me step work for 3 and usually I tackle them and get them done quick. Now I’m just like, meh, bored.

Other people have given advice so I won’t do that, but I am seriously right there with you. Thanks for sharing. @Steve92

Hi @Steve92. I’m late on this thread but I hope you’re doing better now. The good news is that you are being very self-aware and trying to ward of any possible relapses with the tools you have. Because they say relapse can happen days or weeks earlier in the mind, before it becomes reality. Please stay strong.
