My wife headed to her sisters for Christmas already leaving me home alone for a few days until I fly out Thursday… I caught myself dreading leaving work tonight because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to stay sober. 13 days in… its harder to not drink by myself rather than out to eat or at family gatherings.
Get thee out of the house. Lock up the booze. Busy yourself.
I find myself drinking either alone or together with others…so you have identified a sore spot to work on. Good call and good thoughts and you can do this!
Stay strong buddy! I’ve always made worse decisions when my family was away or out of town leaving me “bachelor style” so to speak. Both DUI’s I got in Arizona were when my wife was visiting family out of state. I never would have went to the bar by myself and tried to drive home shit faced if I knew my wife was at home. Pretty juvenile, but hey, I own up to it…
Thanks for the input and encouragement. Heading to the gym now for a run! I run 2-3 half marathons a year and my beverage of choice after a training run was coors light. Hopefully the chamomile I bought is a satisfying substitute and won’t be tempted later.
Have a few backup plans for things to keep you busy. Hit the gym. Do some last minute Christmas shopping. Go for a run. Go to the library and find a good book. Clean out the garage. Anything to keep you moving and busy. I find that if I distract myself with a to-do list it helps too.
Do u have any one u can call to come over and keep u occupied …if not try cooking some food or go out and work on something in your garage
Good luck stay strong
