How to start your road to recovery

I was in recovery before and was 10 years sober. I then started drinking again on a social basis but when the pressure of work started getting to me i started drinking heavily again. I am now signed off work and need to sort my life out. Would really appreciate any feedback on how you started your road to recovery. Thank you

Like anything, you start with the first step.
Size doesn’t matter. Big steps or radical change isn’t always the way.
Even if you don’t feel ready. Just start.
Waiting till you’re ready may be one day too late.

I started just thinking in today and consider being sober as a part of my 24 hours task. It is for me a must. How it is going to be day keeping in mind I must be sober?.

This is the basis of my day: being sober and I planned the rest of the task starting for this.
Being sober means no drop of alcohol, there is no place for “moderation”, un my case it is impossible.

The beginnings are being constructed on not to drink no matter the problem, the circumstances, or even the happy moments.

Just today, do not drink. In my case it also work in think about how disastrous is going to be my day and my life if I take only a drop of alcohol.

I also think in I am sick, I have an illness called alcoholism, and the only remedy is not to drink alcohol. As equal as I was allergic to anything.

Give yourself a chance. Do not drink today.

We stop drinking one day at a time after acknowledging that we need to stop. Therapy, meetings, whatever it takes. You have done it before and you can do it again.

My not short road to start being sober supported these things:

  • before I fell asleep drunk, I left a text or voice message to myself (WhatsApp, Signal) how bad I feel, that drinking is useless, generally my feelings. You would be surprised to check on your voice message back when you wake up
-give a real chance and over and over to practice the tools introduced by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels in their book The Tools. It works, just need to master it by practicing
-quite a factor was a book from Viktor E. FRANKL, last edition, one half of book is his story the other half he shares his extensive experience from field of psychology, therapist
-last one - don’t pressure yourself too much. If you want to drink, drink. However still have in mind, what you really want, that every human being is worth being sober and deserves love, kindness and your first day being sober comes maybe tomorrow. You need to want it.
