The most important thing is to take it one day at a time (ODAAT), finding sober people to support you like here but also in local or online meetings. You are not alone.

First 5 minutes, 24hours, 3 days, 1 week. These were huge for me. By the time you get to 3 weeks, you’ve established a NEW HABIT. One of not drinking, or using. Aside from the drink, I realised that one reason it felt so hard is because I was leaving behind a whole LIFESTYLE. A comfortable, ‘safe’ zone I had become so accustomed and attached to, that I couldn’t wait to get away from normal life and all its seriousness, and go lose myself in my alternate, numb, blissfully detached island of escape. This was hard to let go. The rewards of clear mindedness, energy, productivity, restored relationships, reduced financial debt…all strengthened my resolve. 1 year 3 months now. You too can do it.
