I’m getting the craving again

It’s my 3rd day of being sober and I feel like drinking again. I’m also on a diet so it’s so difficult to control food and alcohol together…I really don’t wanna drink today…

Might need to let the diet slip a day or two to allow yourself to beat the craving with a sweet snack.

It’s very common to be getting strong urges to drink at day 3 plus your body is still going through detox. It’s going to take time…
Generally It’s suggested to quit one thing at a time as recovery takes ALOT of effort and focus plus you’re adding alot of pressure on to yourself by quitting alcohol AND restricting food/diet at the same time.
I would suggest focusing on the no alcohol for the time being. Build supports around you to help you out as its near impossible to do alone.
If the diet aspect is super important to you also, a good temporary compromise may be to try and eat more healthy & regularly but still allow for some indulgences. Then when you feel stronger in your recovery, you can tackle the diet.

I’m on day 4 and started a diet plan yesterday as a way to focus on something other than drinking/not drinking. It’s a healthy, Mediterranean plan, so I’m eating well and all the chopping of veggies is keeping me busy.

I hope you find some peace today!

For years and years, day 3 was the worst. I hope you use great strategies to get through it.

-drink lots of non -booze fluids. Tea, soft drinks, ice water, sparkling water.
-take a hot shower and then turn the water cold, then hot again. (Sensory experience that needs no alcohol or calories!)
-make yourself a healthy meal, eat regularly. Even for your diet experience you need to avoid prolonged hunger periods of time.
-do something you enjoy. Go outdoors and find some version of play. Ride a bike, swim in a lake, play tennis, take a hike. Keep busy.
-read about addiction, read inspiring stories of people who have gotten further along, read about the hard times others have had. Get out of your head and into the struggles and triumphs of others
-stay active in this online community. It is amazing.
-go to bed and give yourself permission to relax and sleep. You have a lot of healing to do and we do that best in sleep.

The strategy that helps me most in a craving is to play the tape forward. I love sober mornings and I treasure them above wasted nights. You will not regret being into day 4.

I wish you the best.

Hey there…for me it was really important not to put too much on my plate at one time. When I first got sober, I let myself indulge cravings when I got them. Ice cream, pop corn, chips, a big bowl of Mac and cheese. As long as I wasn’t drinking…I let myself eat what I wanted. It was really helpful. Along with that. If I felt like binging tv all day and taking three bubble baths…I did it. Getting a massage and not doing my laundry….did it. Not only that but, I would tell myself how proud I was of myself for making the choice to be good to myself. This all began the process of rewriting my relationship with myself. :yellow_heart:

So eat a pint of icecream instead. Really. Life often puts us in “lesser of two evils” situations.

When I first quit alcohol, I ate like a horse. I craved food, especially carbs. I probably drove up the stock prices of the pasta and tater tot manufacturers…but I didn’t drink.

I walked…a lot. It helped mitigate the weight gain one would expect when eating all of that food. Over time my cravings lessened and then sober me could tackle my diet.

Alcohol was killing me faster than food, so I delt with that first. Then I tackled food, then exercise, then nicotine. Remaking yourself is like remodeling a house: do it one room at a time, starting with the basement. A firm foundation of sobriety will support all of your future efforts.

The only one who can make you drink is you. Don’t listen to the voice it will truck you and lie. I have faith that you can do this!
